The properties will "respect Darlington's local character whilst creating a distinctive new community", a council report said

Plans have been approved for 130 homes as part of a new development.

Housing firm Esh will build the properties at the Burtree Garden Village site in Darlington.

The application was approved by Darlington Borough Council's planning committee after the wider scheme received initial outline approval in 2024.

In Faverdale to the north west of the town, it will ultimately see 2,000 homes constructed over 20 years with a school, community centre, pub and health facilities also proposed.

It will be located on old farmland near Burtree Lane, Faverdale Industrial Estate and the A68.

Public spaces and pedestrian routes have been designed to connect into the wider garden village network, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

An access road, from Rotary Way to Burtree Lane, will also be built alongside the community facilities.

Dale Morris, technical director at Homes by Esh, described approval being granted for the 130 properties as "an important milestone".

A report to the council's planning committee said they would "add value to the local area and help add to the vibrancy of Greater Faverdale".
