Police have launched a murder inquiry after the death of a man in Doncaster

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 55-year-old man died following an alleged knife attack in Doncaster.

Police were called to Galsworthy Close just before 23:00 BST on Wednesday following reports a man had suffered a serious knife injury to his neck.

Members of the public had attempted CPR and he was taken by ambulance staff to hospital but did not survive, South Yorkshire Police said. His family has been informed.

A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, possession of an offensive weapon, dangerous driving and robbery, police said. He remains in custody.

The force said it was reported a "number of people fled the scene before police arrival".

Det Ch Insp Ben Wood said: "Once again, we find ourselves dealing with the devastating aftermath of knife crime.

"This should not be the norm in South Yorkshire, but we need the support of our communities to root knife crime out and bring offenders to justice."

Anyone with information is urged to contact the force.
