Gipsey Bridge Academy is one of the schools that will see new parking restrictions enforced

New parking restrictions will be introduced outside four schools in Lincolnshire.

Double-yellow lines will be replaced with no-waiting or no-loading markings outside Carlton Academy in Lincoln, with similar rules also being introduced near Gipsey Bridge Academy, Long Bennington Church of England Academy, and John Harrox Primary School in Moulton.

The measures were approved at a Lincolnshire County Council planning committee meeting on Monday.

Councillor Martin Christopher, who represents the area that includes Carlton Academy in Lincoln, said: "None of the areas proposed are designated parking zones, there is no real loss of safe drop-off locations."

He said the move would "offer much-needed clarity on what's unacceptable, and empowers enforcement teams to challenge this."

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, councillors heard there had been "several" accidents outside Carlton Academy.

Christopher added: "There are incidents of children being hit, and an excessive number of near misses at pick up and drop off times.

"Parents are using the roundabout as a loading bay, which causes high-risk overtaking on a chaotic road near the school."

The new no-waiting restrictions have been approved for parts of Carlton Boulevard and Venables Way between 08:00 and 09:30 BST and 14:30 and 16:00, Monday to Friday.

Similar rules will be put in place near John Harrox Primary School on Broad Lane in Moulton, near Spalding.

Councillor Thomas Sneath, who lives nearby, said the bus lay-by was too often used by cars.

He said: "I witness the problems every morning and evening. I don't want a child hit in the bus layby because some parent used it to park.

"It's a positive sign that the local community wants the rules enforced, and wants to go even further."
