Man 'fighting for life' after screwdriver stabbing
Family handoutA 25-year-old man is "fighting for his life in hospital" after being stabbed in the head with a screwdriver.
Jamie Chappell, from Bristol, was taken to Southmead Hospital following an incident at Widham Gardens building site in Purton near Swindon on Thursday.
Chappell's family has said "every hour is a battle" while they "continue to live with the uncertainty, fear and heartbreak no family should ever have to endure".
James Denys, 36, of Ravensdale, East Wichel, has appeared in court charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm to Chappell.
Chappell's family said he remained "critically ill" in intensive care after an initial operation and would require more surgery.
"Our lives have been turned upside down in an instant," they said.
"As a family we are devastated but we are also determined. We will be there for Jamie through every operation, every setback, every small victory and every step of the long road ahead."
The family expressed "deepest gratitude" to the people on site, air ambulance and doctors at Southmead Hospital who had cared for their son.
Denys was remanded in custody when he appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on Saturday. He is due to appear at Swindon Crown Court on 21 August.
A second man, 36, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been released on bail.
