Tribute to 'cheeky big brother' killed in crash

The family of a 16-year-old boy who died after being involved in a crash say he will be remembered as a "cheeky big brother".

Oscar Mason was a passenger in a Volkswagen Polo which hit a tree next to the A4104, in Defford, Worcestershire, at about 21:20 BST on 12 September, and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Paying tribute, Mason's family said he was "truly the most amazing boy" and described him as "smart, caring and always willing to help others".

The oldest of six boys, his family added that he was loved "fiercely" by his bothers who "idolised him".

He had a "quirky and curious personality", his family said, and was "incredibly intelligent and talented, with the ability to succeed in any sport he tried" but had found a passion for judo.

"He loved every minute of it and couldn't wait to come home and tell us about his lessons, competitions and the medals he was so proud to win," they said.

"We'll miss his mischievous giggle when he was up to no good, seeing his face appear through the glass door when he came home, the cuddles before bed, and the 'sweet dreams, sleep tight, I love yous'," they added.

"He will be remembered for his infectious energy, his love for life, and the happiness he brought to everyone around him."

Two other passengers aged 17 and 16 suffered minor injuries in the incident, while the 18-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

He remains on bail as the police investigation continues.
