MP Cameron Thomas has been suspended from the Liberal Democrat Party

A Liberal Democrat MP who was arrested on suspicion of assault and controlling and coercive behaviour denies all allegations against him.

MP Cameron Thomas, who represents Tewkesbury, confirmed he was arrested by Gloucestershire Police officers last week. He has since had the party whip suspended.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Thomas said: "I comprehensively refute those allegations and continue to fully cooperate with their investigation."

A spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats said that Thomas had been suspended from the party "pending the outcome of a police investigation".

Thomas added that until the conclusion of that investigation, he is unable to comment further.

"But I will continue to serve my constituents as their elected Member of Parliament.

"My office remains in place to support constituents with casework and official enquiries," he said.

Gloucestershire Police said: "On Wednesday, a man in his 40s from Tewkesbury was arrested on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.

"The man was interviewed by officers before later being released on police bail."

Thomas, 43, previously served as a RAF officer and has been the MP for Tewkesbury since the 2024 general election.

He continues to sit as an independent MP, although the BBC understands his Parliamentary access has been temporarily revoked.
