Substation fire causes power outages
BBCInvestigations are ongoing into a fire at a substation near a water treatment works.
Parts of Vale and St Sampson were been left without power following the incident at the Juas water treatment works on Les Juqueurs Road, Vale.
John Tostevin, the health and safety lead for Guernsey Electricity, said technicians were working to find out what caused the fire.
He said that the switchgear "failed" and once they had identified the cause, they could work on replacing equipment where necessary.
Guernsey Electricity said the incident was at about 11:50 BST.
Most of the electricity in the north of the island was turned off to allow the fire service to deal with the incident.
Tostevin said all private properties should be back with power, and Guernsey Water had its own generator.
Vale Primary School was one of the affected sites, but it remained open with parents advised to pick up their children at the usual time.
