Showaddywaddy gig in fan's garden 'dream come true'
BBCA businessman who has been a big fan of Showaddywaddy for decades said it was "a dream come true" when they played in his garden.
Andy Brooks got in touch with the band to ask if they would play for charity from his patio in Hest Bank, Lancashire.
"It was an incredible moment for me when they actually acknowledged my emails and said 'yeh, not a problem, we'll come down and do your back garden and have a great evening'," the 62-year-old said.
"The audience absolutely loved it, there were smiles on their faces from start to finish."
The garden party raised £2,000 for the North Lancs and South Cumbria branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Showaddywaddy formed in Leicester in 1973, had their first hit single, Hey Rock and Roll, in 1974 and had 15 UK top 20 hit singles during the 1970s.
They sold millions of records and their top five hits included Under the Moon of Love, You Got What It Takes and Three Steps to Heaven.
Andy said having them at his home was "a dream come true". He was joined by over 100 friends and family and "the majority of the neighbours" so nobody would be offended by the volume.
"I love their music, it's such a varied selection of rock 'n' roll that everybody likes it," he added.
"It was just an incredible evening, a surreal evening. The way the band interacted with all of us was just amazing."
Lead singer Andy Pelos said: "About a year and a half ago Andy said 'do you want to play in my garden?' and we all kind of went 'of course, we'd love to play' and here we are.
"It was a fantastic night. It was lovely for us to be able to come and do this special night for him."
