Auctioneer Coralie Thomson said she has "absolutely loved" working with the designer collection, including this Gucci coat and scarf

A collection of designer handbags and other luxury goods has sold for more than £12,000 at auction.

They were part of a wardrobe clear-out from a woman in Beverley, East Yorkshire, who never used most of the items.

The 66 items included bags from designers such as Chanel and Gucci as well as scarves, coats and sunglasses.

A Louis Vuitton City Steamer MM Night Lights limited edition tote was the highest-selling bag, going for £1,200.

Other big sellers in the Scarborough-based David Duggleby auction on Friday included a Dolce & Gabbana Sicily Clock medium bag that sold for £850 and a Louis Vuitton Estrela tote bag that sold for £800.

A Chanel 19 medium flap bag, which was deemed the "star of the show" by the auctioneers, did not sell and interested buyers will be able to make an offer for it.

It had been expected to sell for between £3,500 and £5,000.

The Chanel 19 bag was the last creation of Karl Lagerfeld before his death in 2019

Coralie Thomson from the auctioneers said the Chanel 19 medium flap bag, which was the last creation by designer Karl Lagerfeld before his death, was "one of the most coveted bags in the fashion world".

Thomson described the sale as a "unique event" and said it had created "enormous interest".

"It has been a brilliant auction to work on. [It was] wonderful to see the fantastic skill and artistry of some of the greatest fashion designers in the world," she added.

"I've absolutely loved it."
