Several homes have been evacuated after a property was struck by lightning, which caused a fire.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service received a report that a fire had broken out on Wadham Grove, Emersons Green, in Bristol, at about 17:55 BST.

"Upon arrival, crews found the house well alight with significant damage," said the fire service.

The fire service said the cause of the fire is thought to have been from a lightning strike from a thunderstorm that struck the West of England on Monday night.

Crews from Kingswood, Temple, Southmead, Patchway and Portishead fire stations were called to the scene and have managed to extinguish the majority of the fire.

They remain on scene dampening down the area and checking for hotspots, said the fire service.

One person was injured near the scene, unrelated to the incident, and has been passed to the ambulance service.
