Plans to convert the upper floors above a former Marks & Spencer store in Chesterfield into 40 flats are set to be given the go-ahead.

Chesterfield Borough Council's planning committee is recommended by officers to approve a planning application on 6 July from ALB Chesterfield Ltd to redevelop part of the building on the High Street.

The Marks & Spencer store closed in 2022 - with a Tesco Express store having since opened on the site.

A report submitted to the council said the scheme had been designed to "appeal to single professionals, couples, and young families" for whom the accessibility of shops and public transport made living in the town centre "particularly attractive".

The proposed scheme would include a mix of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and studio apartments.

Developers said the plan "supports first-time buyers, contributes to the delivery of high quality homes, and promotes the ongoing vitality of Chesterfield town centre".
