A lorry has crashed into a coffee shop, injuring one person and causing severe damage to the building, emergency services said.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the cafe on the A22 in Nutley at 03:32 BST.

A fire service spokesperson said one person suffered minor injuries, adding: "Everyone from the property was safe and no-one was trapped in the vehicle."

The road has been closed while emergency services remove the lorry and make the building safe, they said.

In a social media post following the crash, the coffee shop owner said they were due to celebrate the cafe's one-year anniversary over the weekend.

"It was not the [one] year celebrations we had intended but we will be back," they added.

The fire service urged people to avoid the area and said it had requested UK Power Networks to attend as cables have been damaged.
