A teenager has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in Manchester city centre, police have said.

The 19-year-old was found on Church Street in the Northern Quarter after Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called at about 12:50 BST.

Officers had received reports of an "ongoing incident" in the area, said a GMP spokesperson.

No arrests have been made over the stabbing and investigations are ongoing.

Emergency services vehicles including a helicopter could be seen in the busy Northern Quarter earlier as police responded to the incident.

A police cordon is in place along Church Street, a busy thoroughfare in the area.
