Plans have been lodged to turn a former wedding venue built in the 18th Century into a school.

Kingdom Christian School has submitted a planning application to Amber Valley Borough Council to convert Alfreton Hall.

The Grade II listed building was built between 1724 and 1725 and, according to planning documents, was partially demolished in 1968.

A report submitted with the planning application said the proposed conversion would accommodate pupils and staff from the current school site in Derby Road, Alfreton.

The planning application detailed that the proposed school hall would also be used for conferences, while the former staff accommodation and office space would be made available for business units.

The report added the school had about 40 pupils and seven members of staff, however, the number of pupils was expected to increase to about 80 in the next five years.

The plans state that the proposed changes to the building would enhance the practical use of the building and would give it a "fresh lease of life".

"A programme of refurbishment and maintenance will secure the long-term future of the hall and its grounds and provide a beautiful setting for the school," it added.
