Lipstick on your collared dove? No, it is a pigeon... But some puns are too good to resist

An unexpected feathered friend has flown into a woman's bathroom and made its nest... in her makeup bag.

Mimmy Stranger returned home to the sight of twigs, leaves and a pigeon on top of a shelf after a few days away at her mum's house.

Her new lofty lodger has laid two eggs and seems very at home, with Stranger joking she was preparing to be a "grandma to twins".

The 30-year-old from Bedford has named her "Pidgey" and said: "I'm happy to leave her there."

The nest was constructed in only a matter of days

Stranger said: "I'd been away, spending some nice time with my mum and came back and noticed there was stuff all over the floor.

"So I looked ahead of me in my bathroom and there was a pigeon in a nest in my makeup bag on my shelf in the bathroom that had laid to eggs.

"I love all animals so I want to make sure they have a chance.

"She's very happy where she is. It's a bit of a difficult situation because I know that I don't want to disturb the nest... I want her to be able to do what she needs to do as a mum but I've become grandma to twins."

Mimmy Stranger said Pidgey was now part of the family even though she had ruffled a few feathers

Kind-hearted Stranger is willing to give the bird and the little ones a home, despite their problematic location.

"I'm going to wait till they're born and then we're going to give them names," she said.

"The mum is so happy there. I can walk in without her moving, she is in full mum mode.

"We've got like an unspoken agreement, me and Pidgey - so she's all right where she is."

According to the RSPB, it is illegal to remove an active bird nest.

"Instead, you must allow the chicks to leave the nest before taking any action to remove a nest or block an entrance to it," the wildlife charity said on its website.

The Bedfordshire-based charity has been approached for comment.
