Serial sex offender, 24, jailed for abuse including rape when he was 16

A sex offender who repeatedly raped and abused two women over a four-year period has been jailed for 12 years.

Calvin Mitchell, 24, - who targeted the first of his victims when he was 16 - was convicted of 14 offences, including six charges of rape.

Mitchell, formerly of Kirkcaldy, Fife, had denied a series of charges.

But at the High Court in Edinburgh the judge, Thomas Welsh KC, said he had been convicted of "grave and serious" offences.

The judge said Mitchell's victims had suffered "a horrific ordeal" and "deep psychological trauma" at his hands.

The court also heard the sex offender had had shown "limited remorse" and had "very little insight" into the damage his behaviour had caused.

He told Mitchell: "The harm that you have done is incalculable."

The judge ordered that Mitchell should be placed under supervision in the community for a further three years after his release.

The court heard that Mitchell began raping a victim at addresses in Glenrothes, Fife, in 2018 when he was 16.

During the abuse he shouted at her, threatened violence and did not allow her to have male friends.

He also showed her intimate images of others and a mobile phone recording of him taking part in sexual activity with another female.

Mitchell also began abusing a second victim in 2018 and isolated her from her friends and family.

The court heard he shouted and swore at her, checked her social media accounts and locked her in a property in Glenrothes to prevent her leaving.

Michell punched, hit, and seized her by the neck and hair and pinned her down during episodes of violence and recorded videos of her taking part in sex acts.

He repeatedly raped her between 2018 and 2022 and throttled her at times during sex to the point where she lost consciousness on one occasion.

Defence counsel Tony Lenehan KC said Mitchell went through adverse childhood experiences and was a young man throughout the period of his offending.

Mitchell was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

The judge also made non harassment orders prohibiting him from contacting or attempting to contact victims.
