Nature reserve sheep killed and limbs removed
RSPB Saltholme- Warning: This article contains distressing information
A pedigree sheep on a nature reserve has been killed leaving an orphaned lamb behind, police said.
The sheep's remains were discovered at RSPB Saltholme, Stockton, in the early hours of Tuesday.
Cleveland Police said someone had cut through a fence to gain access to the field where sheep were grazing and killed the animal by cutting its throat before cutting off its limbs and fleece.
An RSPB spokesperson said: "This is a deeply shocking incident, and we are currently doing all we can to fully assist the police with their inquiries, as well as supporting the local grazier."
Neighbourhood Insp Christian Duree said the culprit would have returned home with animal's blood on them and urged anyone with information to come forward.
