Fire destroys field the size of 70 football pitches
HIWFRSA fire that swept across a field and spread close to gas cylinders has destroyed an area about the size of 70 football pitches.
About 50 firefighters from more than 10 stations were sent to the blaze off Drove Road, Chilbolton near to Stockbridge, Hampshire on Sunday shortly after 16:30 BST.
Crews used water sprays to contain the fire's spread through the field and hedgerows and cooled the cylinders being stored nearby while monitors were put in place for gas leaks.
The fire service said an inspection on Monday morning found no further smoke or hotspots. The cause has not yet been established.
