Charity return for model village streaker

A figure of a streaker that was removed from a model village after complaints it was inappropriate is set to return "with a twist".

Erica the Streaker had been "bringing a smile to generations of visitors" at Godshill Model Village on the Isle of Wight before being removed following negative feedback.

But her absence prompted a backlash from fans and a social media poll ended overwhelmingly in favour of bringing her back.

The tourist attraction said Erica would "be popping up in different locations around the gardens throughout the season" to help raise awareness and funds for The Breast Friends Isle of Wight charity

Godshill Model Village said it had been "genuinely overwhelmed" by the response.

"The conversation that followed has shown just how fond many people are of this tiny figure and the sense of humour she represents," it said in a statement.

"We've decided she will be returning to the Model Village - but with a twist, as we want her return to do some good."

Erica will now help raise awareness and funds for the model village's chosen breast cancer charity.

"It feels like a fitting way for one of our most talked-about residents to support an important cause."

The village asked visitors "to keep their eyes peeled to spot where she's hiding next".

The Breast Friends Isle of Wight director Sammi Densham said the charity was "absolutely delighted" about Erica's return.

Money raised will go towards supporting people affected by breast cancer across the Isle of Wight through its Lemon Aid drop-in support hub in Ryde and its free Tiggs Transport Service

"We'd like to thank everyone who voted for Erica's return and the team at the Model Village for supporting our work in such a fun and unique way.

"Every donation made through this initiative will help us continue supporting local people affected by breast cancer across the Island."
