Musician killed in crash 'universally adored'

The family of a musician who died after he was hit by a tractor say he will be "missed enormously by so many people".

Nathan Smith died in hospital following the crash on Shelton New Road, in Cliffe Vale, Stoke-on-Trent, at about 08:20 BST on Wednesday.

The 45-year-old, from Hartshill, was a self-taught bass player who was part of a number of bands in the city and ran the UTC recording studio in Longton with friend Tom Bath.

"He was supremely talented and in recent years enjoyed success with a new Stoke band MFK, culminating in supporting the Wombats at Trentham Gardens," his family said in a tribute.

"Nathan was so much more though. A wonderful son, grandson and an incredible father. He charmed everyone he met and was universally adored.

"He will be missed enormously by so many people."

Staffordshire Police previously confirmed the driver of the tractor stopped at the scene of the crash.

The force said inquiries were ongoing and appealed for any witnesses, or people with relevant video footage, to get in touch.
