Ever wondered where award-winning solo percussionist Evelyn Glennie works? The musician shows off her creative space – and her huge collection of instruments.

Dame Evelyn Glennie is the first musician to carve out a successful career as a solo percussionist. She has made over 30 solo recordings, won three Grammy awards and performed over 2,500 concerts in 50 countries. These achievements are made even more remarkable by the fact that Evelyn has been profoundly deaf since the age of 12.

She is also an avid collector of musical instruments, and has amassed around 2,000 of them over the years. In this clip, from the programme What Do Artists Do All Day? Evelyn gives us a tour of her barn, the place in her home where she explains “a lot of the physical creativity as a musician happens”.

For Evelyn, collecting is not just about having a beautiful marimba or the most expensive piano – every object is of some use and value. “Anything is relevant to what I do,” she explains.
