Corylus avellana ‘Contorta’ - Common Name: Twisted Hazel A really eye-catching deciduous shrub with contorted leaves and oddly curling and twisted stems. It looks particularly effective in late winter/early spring when it is ‘dripping’ with long yellow catkins. It can grow to a height and spread of 5m, but can be pruned back to keep in check. This shrub will be available to us at a height of 1m high by 15cm wide. Leucanthemum x superbum ‘Aglaia’ - Common Name: Shasta Daisy This unusual leucanthemum is grown for its frayed semi-double, white daisy like flowers that bloom from June to September. It also has dark green leaves and will grow to 60cm high and wide. Stachys byzantina - Common Name: Lambs Ears This evergreen low-growing perennial is mainly grown for its silver/white fluffy leaves that feel like lambs ears! It has tiny purple flowers on long spikes in summer and will grow to approximately 35cm in height and 60cm in width. Sempervivum - Common Name: House Leek These low growing alpines come in all different colours and textures. They form clumps around 30cm wide and approximately 4cm high. Some varieties are coated in tiny hairs that make them appear furry, while others can feel spiky. Choose your variety and we will endeavour to source them or find a similar substitute. Sedum cauticola ‘Lidakense’ - Common Name: Stonecrop This is one of many trailing sedum and has blue/green fleshy leaves on purple tinged stems. In late summer it is covered with pretty red star shaped flowers. It will only grow about 10cm high and will eventually trail about 15cm. Will be available to us approximately 10cm x 10cm. Alchemilla mollis - Common Name: Ladies Mantle This plant has pale green, slightly hairy and frilly leaves that collect water droplets when raining. From June to September it has small yellow/green flowers and forms a clump approximately 60cm high and 80cm wide. Sedum ‘Herbstfeude’ Syn.’ Autumn Joy’ - Common Name: Stone Crop This perennial has fleshy blue/grey leaves and pink cauliflower like flowers in autumn. It will form a clump approximately 60cm high and wide. Much loved by butterflies and bees. Brachyglottis ‘Silver Dormouse’ - Common Name: Senecio This compact evergreen shrub has grey/green foliage covered in tiny white hairs, giving a furry appearance to the whole plant. In summer it has small yellow daisy like flowers. It will eventually reach a height and width of 1m, but will be available to us at 30cm high and wide. Petroselinum crispum - Common Name: Curly Parsley This biennial herb is grown for its shinny bright-green leaves that are springy to the touch. Widely used in cooking to garnish and flavour, it will grow to 80cm high and 60cm wide, but will be available to us at 10cm high and wide. Asplenium scolopendrium ‘Crispum Group’ - Common Name: Harts Tongue Fern This evergreen fern has bright green, strappy frond that are leathery to the touch, heart shaped at the base and wary mid-rib. It will grow to 45cm high and form a clump approximately 60cm wide. Physalis franchetii - Common Name: Chinese lantern This perennial has diamond shaped mid-green leaves and nodding bell shaped flowers in mid-summer. However it is mainly grown for its amazing eye-catching paper like seed capsules that appear like lanterns in summer. It will grow to 60cm and eventually form a 75cm clump. Bergenia ‘Autumn Magic’ - Common Name: Elephants Ear This evergreen perennial has huge, glossy and leather like leaves, hence the name ‘Elephants Ears.’ This particular cultivar produces bright pink flowers are borne on long stems, lovely late colour. It will grow to a clump around 45cm wide and about 30cm high. Fatsia Japoncia - Common Name: Castor Oil Plant This large evergreen shrub has large, leathery palm-like leaves with pale mid-ribs. In late summer it produces clusters of pale yellow flowers on long stems that appear like ‘pom poms!’ It will grow approximately 1.5m high and about 4m wide if left unpruned. Foeniculum vulgore ‘Purpureuni’ - Common Name: Fennel The first thing anyone wants to do when they see fennel is touch it! This perennial has hairy clumps of feathery purple-bronze leaves that feel soft to the touch. In mid-late summer it has flat clusters of tiny yellow flowers followed by aromatic seeds. It will grow to 1.5m high and form a 45cm clump. Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Hameln’ - Common Name: Fountain Grass This clump forming grass grows to approximately 1m in height and will eventually form a clump of 1m wide. It is grown for its long, bristly yellow/green summer flowers that are fluffy to the touch. The grass is also available in a dwarf form, height and spread of 30cm, ‘Bunny tails’ Dryopteris affinis - Common Name: Buckler Fern This fern is mainly grown for its shuttlecock growth habit, forming a clump of up to 80cm. It has long pale green fronds with golden brown mid-ribs and will grow to approximately 90cm in height and width. Festuca glauca - Common Name: Blue Fescue This dense evergreen has very fine blue/grey leaves growing to around 30cm high and forming a clump around 25cm across. In early and mid-summer it has long spikes of blue/green flowers. Clematis tangutica ‘Bill McKenzie’ - Common Name: Travellers Joy This late flowering clematis has bell shaped, nodding yellow flowers with fluffy pom pom like seed heads to follow. If allowed to climb it would reach a height of 7m but can also be used as a trailer. The clematis will be available to us at a height of 1m. Artemisia arborescens ‘Powis Castle’ - Common Name: Mugwort This woody perennial has tactile silver feathery leaves forming a dense clump measuring approximately 60cm high and 90cm wide. Silver/yellow flowers appear in late summer. Acanthus mollis - Common Name: Bears Breeches This perennial has toothed dark green glossy leaves that are less spiky than they look. In mid-late summer they produce tall white flowers with purple bracks, a stunning and striking plant, growing to approximately 1.5m high and will form a 90cm clump. |
