So, there you have it.

Shane Lowry is the 2026 Irish Open champion.

The 39-year-old shot a superb final-round 63 to crush the field, beating Patrick Reed and Joaquin Niemann by 11 shots.

It's his second Irish Open triumph and a first individual win in four years after a couple of painful near-misses earlier this year.

Lowry now makes the short trip across the Irish Sea to chase a second BMW PGA Championship title at Wentworth.

A typically star-studded field will assemble for that one. Looking forward to it.

Shane Lowry says he felt "a bit of jealousy" watching Katie Taylor win her farewell fight on home soil at Croke Park last week.

But today was Lowry's third win on the island of Ireland after the 2009 Irish Open and 2019 Open. He's done pretty well in front of his home support!

"I said walking down the last obviously Portrush was incredible, last year was incredible, and I feel like I can't better it, but look at this," he said.

"I sat last week at Croke Park watching Katie Taylor, with almost a little bit of jealousy what she was achieving and getting to do it in front of her home fans, and I get to do it this week. This is incredible. I'm so happy."

Shane Lowry, speaking after his 11-shot win: "This year has been quite difficult on the course for me. I had a few chances to win. To come here this week and do this, come on, I don't know, I just don't do things like half-measures.

"I can't believe I'm standing here on top of of the leaderboard. I said to my caddie, I didn't know how I was doing. I said to him on 15 after I holed that birdie putt, I said, 'how are we doing? Or how far ahead are we?' He said far enough. So I was happy with that."

"A lot of things have went right for me but this has been the most spectacular week for me. It's just mad. I can't believe it. My mum was just standing there. I have my wife and my kids are back in Florida.

"When things are not going well at this level, it's hard at home as well but my wife has been a huge support and my kids, I love them so much. I'm so happy for them. I can't wait to bring a trophy home. My daughter is always asking, when are you going to bring a trophy home. So I'm going to bring a trophy home."

Just a reminder...this is Shane Lowry's first individual win since September 2022.

That BMW PGA Championship was actually played over 54 holes, so this is his first individual win over 72 holes since the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

He may have a bit more facial hair these days, but he's still the same cracking player.

At the K Club last year, Rory McIlroy needed to hole a 25-footer for eagle to force extra holes with Joakim Lagergren before beating the Swede in the play-off.

Those were hugely dramatic scenes, and while the winner was never in doubt here, Shane Lowry still gave the huge gallery something to roar about.
