  1. 'Something needs to change'published at 16:19 GMT

    FT: Man Utd 0-3 Bournemouth

    Manchester United

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire speaking to Sky Sports: "It wasn't good enough. Disappointed to give a goal away so early - another set play - and conceding first in the Premier League it makes it difficult.

"A mistake for the second makes it hard for ourselves. We didn't perform well enough as individuals or as a team and we didn't deserve anything from the game.

"It's not clicking at the moment. Results are not good enough and performances in the last week not good enough. Still early in the season.

"Got to find something, question yourself, look in the mirror - that's the most important thing - think what you can do more and what more you can contribute to the team and if we do that we'll get somewhere."

Feel responsibility? "Of course - you have to look after your own performances and take responsibility. This is a huge club and every day you have to prove why you're wearing this badge.

"At the moment we're not doing enough as players. Michael [Carrick] turned our season on its head last year and we played brilliant football and got brilliant results. This season we haven't performed well enough as individuals."

Conversation in player group? "If those conversations happen it will remain private. We want to do more be better and get better results. At the moment it's nowhere near good enough and something needs to change."

A quick reminder among the fall out to another damaging defeat for Manchester United that there is another game to come this afternoon as Sunderland host Leeds at the Stadium of Light.

Leeds have never won a Premier League game in the 4:30pm kick-off slot in eight attempts (D3 L5).

In the past two seasons, 49% of Leeds’ points in the Premier League have come in games kicking off at 8pm or later (28/57), which is 21% higher than any other ever-present team (Liverpool, 28%).

Manchester United have failed to win in their last six games in the Premier League, their last longer winless streak was from 1 April 2025 to 16 May 2025, a run of eight games.

  4. 'Carrick knows writing is on the wall'published at 16:16 GMT

Former Man Utd winger on Sky Sports

Players have got to stand up and be counted, but then of course you're going to look at Ineos for what they did over the summer. They haven't recruited the best and they haven't got the players in.

As players, there's no togetherness, there's individuals. They were all separated on the pitch and Bournemouth looked like the team that were on fire.

It's disappointing to see Michael Carrick like that. I wish there were players who knew and had the love for the club that he's got.

The players might look dejected, but I think Michael knows that the writing is on the wall.

Manchester United need to make that [managerial] change tonight, they need to make that decision.

The fans have taken the side of Michael Carrick and it's not about him being the manager, it's about him being a huge figure in United's history.

Those players have done nothing compared to teams of the past so Michael Carrick is always going to win that fight with Bruno Fernandes, and rightly so, no matter how talented a player he is.

But also, Manchester United as a football club, one of the biggest in the world, are 16th in the Premier League right now and that can't continue. Michael Carrick needs to be relieved of his duties tonight - not just for the good of Manchester United, but also for the good of Michael Carrick.

It's not nice watching him walking around the stadium at the end, he's really hurting and what's happening right now is not good for United and not good for Carrick.

Manchester United have won just seven points from eight Premier League games this season (W1 D4 L3), their lowest at this stage of a league season since 1986-87 (4).

This was their heaviest defeat at Old Trafford since December 2024, also against Bournemouth.

  7. 'Managers living in Ferguson's shadow'published at 16:11 GMT

    FT: Man Utd 0-3 Bournemouth

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Every other manager has struggled apart from Sir Alex Ferguson at this football club and I still feel like when it comes to Man Utd, everyone is living in his shadow and not putting in managers and players nowhere near good enough.

But that starts from the top as well because I don't think their recruitment has been anywhere near good enough and that's on years gone by.

Liverpool took their chances and deserved their win. This Liverpool team, it takes take and we have a long way to go. You can see where Iraola will want this team to go. They will become a top team in the future.

Too many people blaming other people and factors for these performances, at the end of the day its Carrick's job to get them playing and he's failing, he is a legend but it's time to go.

    Kenny

Clearly a dressing room revolt at United. When are the club going to stop changing faces when it’s the players downing tools and the owners caring more about the brand instead of the football?

    FT: Man Utd 0-3 Bournemouth

Of course, it is still very early in this Premier League season but it has been a dreadful start for Manchester United.

Eight games in, they sit 16th having won only one game and are just a single point above the relegation zone.

If Sunderland beat Leeds in the 16:30 GMT game, only goal difference will be keeping them out of the bottom three.

Former Man Utd winger on Sky Sports

Unfortunately for Michael Carrick, it's so disappointing. The fans are behind him and backing him and of course they are, because he's a legend of the football club.

But the players on the pitch showed nothing. They didn't run, they didn't look like a team together.

If you looked at the difference to the Bournemouth team, you'd swap every single player for that Manchester United team. It was a poor showing.

  13. 'They deserve to get booed'published at 16:03 GMT

    FT: Man Utd 0-3 Bournemouth

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

On the crowd booing after Michael Carrick had left the pitch:

That says everything to me. They're with Carrick, the fans, but they're not with the players. Wow. That was alarming.

Carrick got a big cheer but as soon it was just the players, they got booed. But they've not been good enough and they deserve to get booed. There's only so much a manager can do.

The players are not good enough, in my opinion, to win football matches.

  14. 'The performance was really good'published at 16:02 GMT

    FT: Liverpool 2-0 Brighton

    Liverpool

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak, speaking to Sky Sports: "Today, especially the performance was really good against a really good team. The first half is what we want to be about: winning balls and the intensity."

The Manchester United fans are singing the Michael Carrick song because I think they know what's going to happen here. They've seen this before.

He's one of their own and he's popular.

But the owners, the sporting department and the players are not popular and they've badly let this football club down.

Those two [Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox] tomorrow are probably going to make a decision that will disgust Manchester United fans, but it's probably necessary.

    It's just an absolute mess.

Loud boos from the Manchester United fans after Michael Carrick makes his way down the tunnel and only the players are left on the pitch.

The home supporters were vocal against the club's owners throughout the match and it's clear their anger is not directed at their manager but the club.

  17. 'Outstanding Bournemouth'published at 15:57 GMT

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's been a comfortable performance from Bournemouth - outstanding.

No matter what's been going on because it could have been difficult for Bournemouth, everyone making them favourites but it's been really good from them this afternoon.

Michael Carrick, as he always does, goes to applaud the home fans. Well, the ones who are still in the ground anyway. It looks like he's doing a full lap of the Old Trafford pitch.
