Charlwood (Surrey) and Pershore (Worcestershire) have now provisionally recorded 37.8C - just two tenths of a degree shy of this year’s highest temperature so far.
If these figures are confirmed and verified it will mean this historic summer has broken yet another record - for the number of 37C+ days in any calendar year.
A temperature above 37C has only been recorded seven times since records began – three of those occasions have been in 2026.
