Investor optimism drove the S&P 500 1.6% higher on Monday morning, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed by 1.2%. Meanwhile, the tech-heavy Nasdaq index, which had fallen last week, jumped by 2.5%.
The conflict has pushed up Americans’ energy bills, inflation, and led to fears of interest rate hikes, heightening fears among investors.
A deal to end the conflict, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, raises the likelihood rates will be left on hold instead when the US central bank meets on Wednesday.
