    HT: Fiji 3-35 England

    Chris Ashton
Former England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

England completely dismantled Fiji. Fiji dropped a lot of ball but England did a job and kept it structured.

They let Fiji have a line-out or scrum and then dominated those areas.

England have got to open up in the second half now.

This week saw a lot of calls for an emphatic England performance to end their five-game losing run.

Is this performance putting any doubts about Steve Borthwick to bed?

The scrum-half thinks he is being held too long and kicks back into Ellis Genge's chest for no reason.

Good to see England moving the ball, getting through some phases. It was too much for Fiji.

Jack van Poortvliet looks dangerous around the ruck. He's spotting the space and taking it.

    Fiji 3-28 England

    Chris Ashton
Former England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Fiji are all over the place here. They haven't got a scrum, their defence is scrambled, they haven't had much ball.

England are dominating every aspect. I haven't seen Fiji play like this for a while.

Benhard Janse van Rensburg (con Fin Smith)

Welcome to international rugby. Benhard Janse van Rensburg only qualified for England on Wednesday.

I think that was his first touch. The Bristol Bears centre hits a hard line and crashes over.

I haven't found this a convincing performance at the moment, I think England have been lucky Fiji are making a few silly errors.

Good, tight-five rugby from England, but the rest of the team just looks so flat. There seems to have been no progress since the Six Nations.

The ball is again lost forward by Fiji. They will be very disappointed with their first-half performance.

Fiji's tourist board/local mineral water/national airline have handed out some free rattan fans and they are getting a good workout in the stands, fluttering away to cool some reddening faces.

It looks to be a crowd close to the Hill Dickinson's capacity of 53,000.

When you bear in mind it was only a touch more - 56,854 - who attended England's Rugby World Cup warm-up defeat by Fiji in 2023, I reckon that is a decent turnout.
