Andrea Lee had a good go at holing a monster putt but it's not to be, so Leona Maguire has the simple task of tapping in a short one to put Europe ahead in match three.

Swedish sensations Maja Stark and Linn Grant anchor the European challenge this morning.

Stark won the 2025 US Open and played both foursomes matches in 2023 at Finca Cortesin in Spain with her good friend Grant, winning one and losing one.

Jennifer Kupcho is one of three major winners in the US team, while Rose Zhang is a former world number one amateur who is making her third appearance.

Leona Maguire finds a fairway at last off the first tee for Europe before Esther Henseleit finds a stunner of an approach to knock it almost stone dead.

Lindy Duncan feels the pressure as she tries to respond but catches her wedge shot pretty thin and it skips well beyond the flag. Andrea Lee may have to drain that from long range to avoid losing the opener.

It's all square in the top match as Nelly Korda wins a short game battle with Charley Hull to knock the USA's third shot much closer on the par five second.

Lottie Woad this time can't find the hole with her putt from range so Allisen Corpuz can roll in a tiddler to level the match.

Alison Lee, with a long-handled putter, leaves her birdie putt on the green which gives Nanna Koerstz Madsen the chance to escape with a half.

And she does just that, rolling in from three feet.

And Celine Boutier does exactly that! She atones for her errant drive by knocking a wedge into about three feet.

You fancy Alison Lee will have to knock her birdie putt in the hole to win this hole now.

Esther Henseleit came so close to winning the AIG Women's Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes this year, so she's in great form heading into the Solheim Cup.

Ireland's Leona Maguie is about as tough a matchplay golfer as you could want and holds an 8-3-1 record in the Solheim Cup.

Andrea Lee is taking part in her third Solheim Cup so is an experienced pair of hands to partner rookie Lindy Duncan for the USA.

Lauren Coughlin has just 93 yards to the flag after Alison Lee's perfect drive.

And her shot is almost a carbon copy of Nelly Korda's approach to the first, tracking the flag but coming to a stop a good 15-18 feet beyond the cup.

Can Celine Boutier knock Europe's third in close to put pressure on the putt?

Nanna Koerstz Madsen is hunkered under a tree, her ball barely visible in the rough, so this is going to be a bunt up the fairway. The backswing is hampered too.

She's now concerned that she's knocked a twig off the tree while taking a practice backswing. Rules official called... he says all is fine so NKM punches the ball back into the short stuff.

Charley Hull and Nelly Korda are the two big stars of their teams so it's great to see them going head-to-head this morning, we'd love to see them clash in the singles on Sunday again, just as they did last time when the Englishwoman ran out a rampant 6&4 winner.

Since then, though, Korda got the better of Hull in the final round of this year’s US Women’s Open when battling it out down the stretch. The American is now a four-time major champion.

Hull still hasn’t won her first major, but if she won another singles battle with the world number one then maybe that can add that final piece in the puzzle to get her over the line. She's surely too good not to win one?

Celine Boutier, wearing a European blue and yellow snood on what looks like a chilly start, is away for Europe and that's a nervy tug down the left. It's worse than Lottie Woad's though and her ball disappears into the deep stuff.

How about that from Lottie Woad! Charley Hull and Nelly Korda both found the green with wedge shots in, a similar distance apart, but while Allisen Corpuz rolled her ball just up to the side of the hole, Woad canned hers for an opening birdie to put Europe 1UP in the lead-off match.

Great start.

A real contrast in the European pairing with Denmark's Nanna Koerstz Madsen bringing the fire and France's Celine Boutier the calming influence.

Boutier won one of her two foursomes matches last time out - and that victory was with Europe skipper Anna Nordqvist.

For the US pair, Lauren Coughlin went unbeaten in 2024's victory, claiming 3½ points out of four matches - winning both foursomes and one fourball match. She is the second highest ranked US player in the world standings at 17.

Alison Lee is playing in her third Solheim Cup - she's probably best remembered for the controversial 2015 concession that never was and left her and Charley Hull in tears.

Allisen Corpuz has the honour of getting the 20th Solheim Cup under way, which she does superbly by hitting a driver right down the middle of the fairway.

It's rookie Lottie Woad, and not Charley Hull, who hits first for Europe in this alternate shot format we have first this morning. She tugs her tee shot wide left with a bit of a hook, but it's a generous starting hole so it doesn't look like being in too much trouble.

What more could you want for the first match of the day? World No.1 Nelly Korda has her favourite partner alongside her to take on the swashbuckling superstar Charley Hull and emerging force Lottie Woad.

Korda took down Hull at this year's US Women's Open, but Hull dismantled Korda 6&4 in the singles at the last Solheim Cup - don't think for one second that the American has forgotten that.

There's big smiles from the Americans but a slightly more focused look on Charley Hull and Lottie Woad's faces, who share a hug with Anna Nordqvist before staring down the fairway to get a picture of that crucial first tee shot coming up.

There's nothing quite like it in the rest of golf.

Both European captain Anna Nordqvist and her USA counterpart Angela Stanford put out their big guns first up this morning.

World No.1 Nelly Korda is 4-0 playing alongside Allisen Corpuz, while Charley Hull is paired with Lottie Woad - who is a rookie on this European team but is also the highest ranked player on it after her stunning rise up the ranks.

That's just the start though of a mouthwatering line-up.
