A surprise goal from goalkeeper Pete Jameson was not enough to prevent Gateshead falling to National League defeat away to Harrogate Town.

The visitors went ahead thanks to an unlikely figure when Jameson's long kick bounced over Harrogate's debutant keeper Rory Watson in the 46th minute.

The bizarre goal by the ex-Harrogate stopper was quickly cancelled out by Josh Hmani, and Watson's blushes were spared by a last-gasp Ashley Boatswain own goal.

A goalless first half at Wetherby Road sparked into life when Jameson's wind-assisted clearance at the start of the second half fooled former Hull youngster Watson.

Hmani started the comeback trail eight minutes later when his strike deflected past Jameson, before the late drama earned Harrogate a third win of the National League campaign to put them fifth.
