Watch the best of tonight's Edinburgh derby on Sportscene later.

Coverage starts on BBC One Scotland and the iPlayer at 22:40 BST.

If you miss it, you'll be to catch it on demand.

Hibs head coach David Gray tells BBC Scotland: "First half 2-0 down, not good enough in terms of the second balls we lost and the goals we lost were really poor.

"But even within that there was a 10-minute period when we should equalise.

"We hit the bar and then lose a second goal, but going in 2-0 down I really can't complain

"Made a couple of changes at half-time, which helped and the second half was the way we wanted to start the first half - much more on the front foot and more aggressive.

"We really got into Hearts, won second balls and deservedly got a goal to get back to 2-1 and then at that point we're really pushing and the momentum was with us.

"Then it's a multitude of errors at the red card and then at that point all the hard work to get back into the game is undone."

Let's hear from the losing manager now.

David Gray has been speaking to our Amy Canavan...

More from Hearts head coach Wouter Vrancken, who is ready to give compatriot Sebastien Pocognoli the lowdown on Josh McPake, James Wilson and Calvin Miller as he considers call-ups to his first Scotland squad.

"The three of them make a good chance," he told BBC Scotland.

"Maybe as a fellow Belgian I have to give him a phonecall."

Of winger McPake, he says: "It was a difficult start and he had to adapt in several ways and the things we wanted to see and be decisive in certain moments.

"But he did great and picked up those things and he is really strong in defence as well as offence and I'm pleased to see this happening.

"I am glad to see improvements both as an individual and as a team-mate and we can see room for further improvements.

As for striker Wilson, he adds: "He is a young boy and he has to learn with this physicality.

"He is coachable and picks things up and you see it also in the games.

"I am happy to see he gets extra confidence and keeps going."

Hibs will just need to take the positives and try to bounce back.

They have started the season well.

I know they have come out of Europe, but I think they did well in Europe.

A derby can get blown out of proportion and they started the second half well.

Hibs have now lost their past three league games against Hearts.

That's the first time that's happened since March 2012.

McPake had a good upbringing with Rangers.

I know he has had loan moves, but it is about getting the right environment and the right manager.

That is why the St Johnstone one was successful in the Championship last season because it was structured to get him on the ball in one-v-one situations.

Now he has landed with Wouter Vrancken and I think he will be a manager who will enhance his career.

When they get him isolated, he puts defenders under pressure.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is named in the next Scotland squad because he is the standout at present.

It was a tremendous run and tremendous finish. I think McPake was tremendous during the full game.

It is so hard for defenders. When wingers play on the opposite side, they always want to come on the inside, but he is happy to go on the outside and feint and go on his left side.

He did it for James Wilson's goal and had the composure even on his weaker foot to play a nice cutback.

When you are the Scotland manager, we all want men who can change games and players, when we are maybe up against it, who can go.

It is the best feeling in the world when you are playing central midfield that you know that winger, if you give him the ball, he can go and create something.

To come from St Johnstone and make that step up, it is a big club Hearts, and to do it so seamlessly... he will be a big player for Hearts this season.

Hearts boss Wouter Vrancken tells BBC Scotland: "We played a brilliant first half. We had to adapt a little bit.

"[We said at half-time] that the only they could come back in the game is if we give the moments away. I'm proud the lads kept their heads in the game.

"It was nice to see and it was also a nice atmosphere. [The fans] were really loud, it felt like a home game. But you have to be above the emotions so you have the overview and show the quality."

On the severity of Blair Spittal's injury, Vrancken adds: "I don't know yet, I don't think it's too bad."

Wouter Vrancken says he might need to pick up the phone to his fellow Belgian Sebastien Pocognoli regarding getting Josh McPake, James Wilson and Calvin Miller into the Scotland squad.

You can hear more from the Hearts boss on Sportsound right now.

Yep, without Jack Iredale losing the plot twice we might be reacting to this game differently.

But football can be silly and people can do silly things.

The first half when David Gray watches it back he will be really, really disappointed.

They allowed Hearts to settle into the game. They had control and moved the ball really well and took their chances.

Then second half, you knew Hibs were going to go far more direct and the substitutes had a real impact.

Then one moment of mix-up between Raphael Sallinger and Jack Iredale and, after the red card, it was a long way back for Hibs.

That one moment ultimately swung it against Hibs.

That's why you become a professional footballer - nights like this.

Even Blair Spittal is dancing about on crutches - I don't know if that's the wisest thing, Blair, but we'll let him away with it.

The Hibs players will be in the dressing room absolutely gutted.

Hearts were outstanding in the first half while Hibs were really good in the first 15 minutes of the second half, and then just 30 seconds of madness just killed it for Hibs.

Hibs have lost each of their last five home league games. Sheesh.

That's their longest run in the top flight since August 2010.

It's not stopping the Hearts midfielder partying with his team-mates, though.

The entire squad is lined up, bouncing along with a buzzing away end.

Amy made us aware of this earlier, but we can now see Blair Spittal hobbling about on crutches and in a protective boot.

The only real negative on a positive night for the Jambos.

A first Edinburgh derby win for Wouter Vrancken in his first Edinburgh derby.

Hearts leave Leith with three goals and three points thanks to James Wilson, Laurent Mendy and Josh McPake.

There are very few Hibs fans left in Easter Road with the Jambos in party mode.
