Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3 'Scottish' from Munich

Mark Forrest introduces an afternoon of great music, including performances from the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and chamber music from across Bavaria.

Mark Forrest presents an afternoon of exceptional music-making from Germany, featuring performances by the Munich Philharmonic alongside chamber music from the Feldafing and Goldmund Festivals.

The programme opens with Debussy’s shimmering La Mer, performed by the Munich Philharmonic under Kent Nagano. The orchestra returns under Lahav Shani for Mendelssohn’s evocative Scottish Symphony, followed by Wagner’s dramatic Overture to Der fliegende Holländer.

From the Feldafing Music Festival comes Dohnányi’s Sextet in C, while the Goldmund Festival is represented by the Goldmund Quartet, performing Brahms’s String Quartet in A minor.

Also, pianist Richard Goode brings his distinctive insight and musicianship to Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 31 in A-flat major.
