Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini from the Netherlands

Alexandra Humphreys introduces an afternoon of specially made recordings including highlights from summer festivals in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Edinburgh.

Alexandra Humphreys brings you an afternoon of exclusive music-making including performances a great summer of music-making in the U.K and abroad.
From Amsterdam, the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, directed by violinist Michael Waterman, performs Bach’s Concerto in D minor. Also from the Dutch Summer Concerts, pianist Yulianna Avdeeva joins the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Tianyi Lu for Rachmaninov’s dazzling Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.

At the Utrecht Early Music Festival, mezzo-soprano Eva Zaïcik joins Le Poème Harmonique, directed by Vincent Dumestre, for Vivaldi’s Invicti, bellate, a dramatic motet showcasing the composer’s flair for theatricality and virtuosic vocal writing.

And from the Edinburgh International Festival, the Pavel Haas Quartet performs Dvořák’s much-loved String Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 96, “American”, a work rich in warmth, rhythmic energy and folk-inspired melody.
