Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade from the Netherlands

Elizabeth Alker introduces an afternoon of specially made recordings including highlights from summer festivals in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Edinburgh.

Elizabeth Alker brings you an afternoon of exclusive music-making including performances a great summer of music-making in the U.K and abroad. From Amsterdam, Poulenc’s Les Biches and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade bring two very different colours to the concert hall, with the South Netherlands Philharmonic conducted by Duncan Ward and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra led by Tianyi Lu.

From Utrecht, Le Poème Harmonique and Vincent Dumestre perform Locatelli’s sombre Sinfonia funebre, while the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, directed by Michael Waterman, play C.P.E. Bach’s D minor Flute Concerto. And from the Edinburgh International Festival, Vilde Frang and Olli Mustonen perform Bartók’s powerful First Violin Sonata.
