The Grave ArchitectsNottingham band The Grave Architects are a mish-mash of country, 50s, doo-whop and hip-hop. Matthew Williams (songs, guitars, harmonica and keyboards), George Napthine (drums, keyboards and backing vocals), James Vyner (thunderous bass and backing vocals) and James "Jazz" Johnston (keyboards, vibes) are The Grave Architects. They were born out of curiosity in 2005. At the time singer/songwriter Matt was part of Nottingham band St Joan. He was enjoying himself but wanted to try out different styles of music. "A bit like the Mr Benn, I wanted to be someone else for a while." Everyone's very friendly, very supportive. We just started practising together." Their debut double A sided single - Highway Be True and Love TBC - has had a lot of airplay on the Beat on BBC Radio Nottingham but it's taken the boys a long time to be ready to release it as they wanted to finish their album first. Describing the album, which is set for release later this year, Matt says: "It's a bit of an odd listen. We just try and keep ourselves entertained and amused as much as possible. "That kind of takes us down some interesting avenues, from country, 50s stuff to doo-wop and hip-hop." The Grave Architects' debut single is out on Monday 30 March 2009.
