Although it's a lot easier to make music these days it still takes time to get the quality right.

Tom Wardle's been working on his debut EP, Another Late Night, for several months. It's due to see the light of day in March 2009.

Perfect pop

The singer, from Kimberley, hopes the result will be a classic collection of pop songs. Wardle cites his influences as the Beatles, 60s songs and, from the modern age, Take That.

"I want to write great pop songs," says the 22-year-old, "something people can dance to."

The live sound

It's through performing songs in bars and clubs that Tom Wardle hopes to reach the masses. He's built up plenty of experience of playing in a live setting. When he first got into music he performed with the band 8Idle Hands who enjoyed moderate success around Nottingham.

When they split he decided to go solo.

"Usually I just go out on my own with the acoustic guitar. I did about 200 gigs in 2008 so I'm used to it now. I'm making a living out of it."

Money to be made

For all the success playing shows Tom knows that to make decent money he'll need people to buy his songs. That's why he believes it's so important to compose your own hits.

"Nowadays to make any money you've go to write it. The money's in the songwriting. I've written my songs. Now I want to get out there and get them played."
