CBBC's One Zoo Three zoo welcomes first tapir calf in 14 years

The tapir, who doesn't even have a name yet, is the first born at the zoo in 14 years

A tapir calf has been born at a zoo featured in a CBBC series.

And it's a pretty big deal because Hertfordshire Zoo, which appears in One Zoo Three, said the male lowland tapir is the first of its species to be born there in 14 years.

The calf was born on 8 July and hasn't been named yet.

The tapir calf was able to stand just ten minutes after being born

Fifi, who is the calf's mum, was pregnant for an incredible 430 days!

And zoo staff said the little tapir was able to stand within 10 minutes of being born.

It's great news for conservation because the lowland tapir is a vulnerable species.

That means they are at risk of extinction or disappearing from the wild.

Tyler Whitnall, from the zoo, explained that the calf "represents hope" as the species "is under increasing pressure in the wild".
