Image source, ReutersThe number of deaths in Wednesday's earthquakes has risen to at least 920, top Venezuelan lawmaker Jorge Rodríguez said.
More than 3,300 people have also been injured and many are still believed to be trapped.
Rescue efforts are under way. In the badly affected state of La Guaira, more than 200 people have been rescued. After Venezuela's acting President Delcy Rodríguez instructed the military to take control of the state, images have shown aid being distributed to those affected.
This, however, comes after criticism that the government has not responded more quickly.
A mother told the BBC her daughters, aged 22 and 23, are missing. "I just want them back with me," she said. Another woman, Marianella, told BBC News Mundo "my heart tells me my brother is alive".
