MasterChef

Series 22: 11. Episode 11

The last heat of this year’s competition has arrived, and the final group of six amateurs have been patiently waiting for their shot at culinary stardom. As always, four MasterChef aprons are up for grabs, and Anna and Grace will be putting them through their paces across two tasks. In this round, the hopefuls include two teachers, a pub manager and a civil servant, who all have one thing in common: an insatiable appetite for cooking.

The signature dish round kicks off proceedings, with Anna and Grace hoping to sample a dish that represents the amateurs down to a tee.

The standard in the 2026 competition is through the roof, so to earn one of the two aprons on offer this round, the amateurs must show that they are not afraid to push themselves. The judges’ favourite pair will sail through to the next round, leaving the other four to prepare for their final chance.

Securing one of the last two aprons in this year’s competition won’t be easy, as the remaining four will be taking on Anna and Grace’s classic recipe test. This time round, the judges would like them to prepare gnocchi with a Tuscan-style sauce, sun-blushed tomatoes and spinach. The issue is that they won’t have access to any measurements or methods. They will just have the basic recipe and only 45 minutes to complete the task. Light and delicate gnocchi that is cooked to perfection and a sauce singing with Mediterranean flavours might not be as easy as it sounds. Culinary instincts will need to kick in... fast!

It might come down to small margins, but Anna and Grace can only choose two competitors to progress in the competition, meaning two will come to the end of their MasterChef journey.

Next, the four cooks left standing will need to prove there’s more in the tank as they fight to keep hold of their place in the competition. The judges have invited three familiar faces to taste the amateur’s dishes: 2006 finalist Dean Edwards, 2012 champion, Shelina Permalloo, and 2024 champion, Brin Parathapan.

All three know the drill and will be expecting food that is imaginative as well as tasty, but will the amateurs be able to deliver two courses in just one hour and 15 minutes? This is next-level pressure, and the stakes are higher than ever.

With the diners' verdict in hand, Anna and Grace will ultimately choose which cooks have MasterChef potential and deserve to stick around in the race to become this year’s champion.
