It's already Monday - and June - in Paris, where there promises to be more of the same drama to come on day nine of this fine tournament.

The main event is undoubtedly world number one Aryna Sabalenka against fellow four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka in a rare women's night session, but we'll be back for live text coverage and BBC Radio 5 Live commentary of men's fourth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime against Chile's Alejandro Tabilo.

    Until then, goodnight.

There was yet another surprise result on Court Philippe-Chatrier, with four-time champion Iga Swiateklosing to in-form 15th seed Marta Kostyuk in straight sets.

Men's second seed Alexander Zverev, however, had no such struggles, beating lucky loser Jesper de Jong 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 6-1.

He will face teenager and 27th seed Rafael Jodar in the last eight after the Spaniard came from 2-0 down to beat compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta in five.

Jodar's fellow 19-year-old Joao Fonseca ousted two-time finalist Casper Ruud in four sets while 26th seed Jakub Mensik - only 20 himself - came through a decider to beat 10-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist Andrey Rublev.

Elsewhere, 11th seed Elina Svitolina recovered from losing the opening set to beat Belinda Bencic 4-6 6-4 6-0, veteran 18th seed Sorana Cirstea overcame Xiyu Wang in straight sets as she continues her fairytale final season, and eighth seed Mirra Andreeva won in two.

I am not sure he knows what to do with himself, the way he has come out in all of these matches. Everyone was wondering how he was going to come out off the back off a five-hour Novak Djokovic match but he came out and he did it again.

    This teenager is something special.

Joao Fonseca is still rushing the net and it forces Casper Ruud to go for the extremities. He drags his forehand wide.

A cute drop shop at the end of another lengthy exchange brings the error from Ruud.

And then... an ace. Three match points!

One-two punch. A big serve down the T followed by a crunching down-the-line forehand. Advantage Joao Fonseca.

He closes the hold in playful fashion - a drop shot, a lob (chased very well by Casper Ruud) and a cross-court volley into the open court to seal the deal.

    One game away!

Big serve. Huge. 203kph down the T and returned into the net.

Then, Joao Fonseka draws a couple of errors from his Norwegian opponent, a forehand going long and backhand on the slide drifting wide.

But Ruud has gas in the tank and forces deuce.

    Joao Fonseca. Stop it.

He's dragged off the court on his forehand, dragged into the opposite corner on his backhand, chases forward for a drop shot and replies with a forehand winner of his own. 15-all.

Back-to-back backhand errors from Joao Fonseca to give up 0-30. He could have been up a double-break a moment ago...

No drama, says Fonseca. He pulls it back to 30-all before hanging in a brutal baseline exchange and being rewarded with the error. He takes a deep breath. That rally was 18 shots long and he was on the backfoot for almost all of it.

Ruud sends a forehand long. Fonseca escapes.
