Arthur Fery races to 40-0, deploying the wide serve/cross-court forehand one-two punch to good effect himself. The long-limbed Alexander Zverev, at full stretch, gets the ball back over the net but it was never in danger of going in.
A double fault brings an intake of breath from the Centre Court crowd before Fery is pegged back to 40-30 with a forehand winner from Alexander Zverev.
But the British wildcard holds his nerve.

Alfie Hewett will soon take to Court One to take on Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez in their last four meeting in the men's wheelchair singles.

Fery responds with an unreturned serve down the T but then Zverev's forehand fires. 30-all.
Fery showcases his variety, following a serve in and cushioning a drop shot over the net, and completes the hold to 30 with Zverev's return ballooning long.

He goes toe-to-toe with Alexander Zverev at the baseline but blinks first, sending a forehand long, and the German follows up wih two big first serves.
A helpful net cord goes the way of Fery but Zverev closes out the hold to 30. One-two punch - powerful serve followed by a forehand into the opposite corner.

The slower serve and the bigger wingspan of Alexander Zverev means that Arthur Fery is not getting many cheap points - he's having to work extremely hard already.

He responds with a booming return and Fery nets his reply. 30-all.
Points are traded again for 40-all, Zverev gobbling up a sliced backhand that sat up in the middle of the court after a baseline exchange. Big forehand.
