After a tense seven minutes, Arthur Fery gets the hold.

He'll hope that's not a sign of how his service games are going to play out for the rest of this match.

  2. Bergs' 'poor record' in slamspublished at 14:20 BST

    Bergs 0-0 Fery*

    Nick Lester
Former British tennis player on BBC One

Bergs' major record in recent years has been relatively poor. There has been a lot of early exits in the grand slams.

In fact, five of the past six majors he has lost in the opening round, so this has come at a good time for him.

  3. Mertens holdspublished at 14:19 BST

    Mertens 7-6 (7-4) 2-1 Rybakina*

Elena Rybakina is showing some aggression in her returns but the shots aren't landing at the moment.

After a couple of missed opportunities from the second seed, Elise Mertens sees out the game.

  4. Third deucepublished at 14:19 BST

    Bergs 0-0 Fery*

And it's third deuce when Zizou Bergs executes a beautiful drop shot. Arthur Fery was starting from quite deep behind the baseline and had no chance of getting there.

Far from a straightforward start for the Briton.

  6. Second deucepublished at 14:17 BST

    Bergs 0-0 Fery*

Arthur Fery comes up with a huge serve to earn advantage but it's back to second deuce when Zizou Bergs does a great job of attacking the ball from the middle of the baseline.

  7. Eala holds to lovepublished at 14:17 BST

    Eala 4-3 Swiatek*

A first in this match: a comfortable hold.

Alexandra Eala with a consummate service game, sealed with an ace.

There was a slight scare for Iga Swiatek as she slipped trying to change direction but it doesn't look like any damage was done to the defending champion.

  8. Rybakina holdspublished at 14:17 BST

    *Mertens 7-6 (7-4) 1-1 Rybakina

Elena Rybakina makes a strong start to the second set with a hold to love.

Not much Elise Mertens could have done there.

  9. Deucepublished at 14:16 BST

    Bergs 0-0 Fery*

The cheers continue for Arthur Fery as he takes a 15-0 lead but then reality sets in as he exchanges points with Zizou Bergs to 30-30.

It's going to take a lot more than just support from the stands to get Fery through to round four.

Fery gets to 40-40 but is pegged back to deuce when Bergs whips a lovely passing shot into the corner.

  10. Swiatek holdspublished at 14:14 BST

    *Eala 3-3 Swiatek

Down 0-30, Iga Swiatek reels off four quick points to hold.

Alexandra Eala is really taking it to the third seed, especially when she gets a look at the second serve.

But Swiatek, having got back to 30-30 with a pair of superb backhand winners, produces a couple of big serves to level it up.

  11. Mertens holdspublished at 14:14 BST

    Mertens 7-6 (7-4) 1-0 Rybakina*

Elise Mertens has only beaten Elena Rybakina once in eight matches before today so winning that first set would have done her belief a world of good.

The Belgian 25th seed makes a solid start to the second set as she secures the hold.

    Bergs 0-0 Fery*

A huge round of applause and some pretty big cheers as Arthur Fery retreats to the baseline to begin serving in this first set.

  13. Fery will be 'like Rocky Balboa'published at 14:13 BST

    Bergs v Fery

    Jeff Tarango
Former American tennis player on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think the crowd will be a big factor for Arthur Fery because if he thinks anything about fatigue, the crowd will make him forget about that. He'll be like Rocky Balboa.

  14. 'Huge queue'published at 14:13 BST

    Vergs v Fery

    Emily Salley
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

There is a huge queue snaking the whole way around court 18, with people hoping to catch a glimpse of the last British player left standing in the singles.

I’m not sure they’ll have much luck. Some fans have been here since the first match this morning and they’re not prepared to give their seat up now.

Arthur Fery gets a big cheer as he makes his way onto the court and starts warming up.

  15. 'It would be a big upset'published at 14:12 BST

    Bergs v Fery

    Jonathan Overend
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

Arthur Fery has successfully made it out of the locker room and on to court 18.

The 23-year-old lives just around the corner. He is 114 in the world but he will move into the world's top 100 if he wins today, which would be a big upset.

His opponent Zizou Bergs is the Eastbourne champion. He is a man who likes playing on the grass, he has an attacking style and he has a lot of personality. He will start the favourite, but can Fery cause the upset?

  16. 'Top 100 just the beginning' for Ferypublished at 14:11 BST

    Bergs v Fery

    Kyle Edmund
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

Arthur Fery will be aware of where he currently is in the world rankings. I think he was about 113 in the live rankings, but making the top 100 is a nice achievement. I don't think that should be a massive thing for him though, I personally think he should be aiming for the top 50 and once he has hit that then the top 20.

He has the game and the IQ to go that far in this sport. I think that top 100 is just the beginning of him being on tour and I expect him to progress from there.

  17. Short in stature but not confidence - can Fery continue SW19 run?published at 14:10 BST

Arthur Fery is probably sick of people mentioning his height.

At 5ft 9in, the British number three is shorter than many of his peers on the ATP Tour.

The Wimbledon grass often suits 'servebots' - tall players who send down flurries of aces and unreturnable first serves. Fery does not fall into that category.

But the 23-year-old has shown he has other tools to hurt opponents and plans to use them against Zizou Bergs, a 6ft 1in Belgian, when they meet on Saturday for a place in the fourth round.

The world number 114 is carrying British hopes at the All England Club after becoming the sole home player to reach the third round of the singles.

"Arthur has to be an exceptional mover - he's got a very good first serve, but he's not going to get as many cheap points by hitting people off the court," said Alex Ward, a men's national coach with the Lawn Tennis Association who has been guiding Fery.

    Eala 3-2 Swiatek*

    Amy Lofthouse
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Now it’s Iga Swiatek’s turn to direct her frustrations towards her coaching box. A couple of poor returns have allowed Alexandra Eala to wriggle out of that service game.

  19. Eala holdspublished at 14:09 BST

    Eala 3-2 Swiatek*

There is no such thing as a straightforward service game so far in this match, it seems.

Alexandra Eala looked to be on course for one after showing great speed into the net and then putting away a volley to go up 40-15.

However, a weak attempted drop shot into the net on the next point lets Iga Swiatek back in, she takes it to deuce but Eala comes through to hold.

  20. 'A big problem for Swiatek'published at 14:09 BST

    *Eala 2-2 Swiatek

    Sam Smith

Eala is winning points in so many different ways. That is a big problem for Iga Swiatek if Eala keeps this up.
