American Ben Shelton is the eighth seed and one of the favourites, but he's been handed a difficult draw. He opened his US Open with a four-set win over Tallon Griekspoor, the former world number 12, and now he's up against Hubert Hurkacz, who has been ranked as high as sixth in the world.

It's one set apiece and it looks like we're in for a tense end to this third set as the Pole holds serve for a 6-5 lead.

On Katie Boulter's three-set victory against wildcard Carol Young Suh Lee in round one...

She was nervous but I think it was tough though. You're playing an opponent you don't know too much about, you know that you're the favourite in this situation but I liked how she came out and reset after that second set.

She had such intensity in the third and got the early break and from then never looked back. She just went for her shots but with restraint which is such a big thing for Katie - she can hit a big ball but it's just building the point out is something she's been working on for a while now.

Brit Katie Boulter has been moved from court 17 on to Louis Armstrong for her second-round meeting with seventh seed Karolina Muchova.

• Brit Jan Choinski lost to Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets in their delayed first-round meeting.
• American third seed Jessica Pegula dropped just four games as she eased into the third round with victory over Sofia Kenin.
• Men's seventh seed Daniil Medvedev also advanced to the third round in straight sets, beating Sebastian Gorzny.

We were about to get under way on court five with Britain's Fran Jones set to resume her first-round match against Poland's Magda Linette after it was suspended on Tuesday because of rain.

The players had just finished their warm-ups when it started to rain again, so the match has been delayed further.

Hopefully this rain won't stick around for long...

Well, that came out of nowhere. Thought I was going mad when both players headed to their chairs at 40-15.

A few hardy souls have stayed in position under umbrellas in the stands but most spectators are dashing for cover.

While we wait, let's recap what's happened so far on day four...

At 15-all, Tomas Martin Etcheverry finds an ace and then gratefully accepts a forehand error from Jacob Fearnley.

But then... rain.

Jacob Fearnley is on course for the first love hold of the match but Tomas Martin Etcheverry has other ideas.

He positions himself for a forehand off a wide serve and is duly rewarded, the ball sitting up nicely for him to wallop at shoulder height for a down-the-line winner.

He pulls another point back before Fearnley closes out the hold with an ace.

Fran Jones resumes her first-round match against Magda Linette next on court five after it was suspended on Tuesday because of heavy rain in New York.

Jones won the first set 6-4 before play was halted and is well placed to become the third British woman to reach the second round at Flushing Meadows this year after Katie Boulter and Harriet Dart.

Jacob Fearnley gifts away 40-15 with a pair of loose forehands but finds more joy when he drags Tomas Martin Etcheverry into the service box with a shorter, angled return.

Etcheverry tries to come into the net on his second game point, is driven back by a looping return, but regains control with some heavy hitting to complete the hold.

Lusty blows from both players at the back of the court, with Jacob Fearnley coming out on top to build a 40-0 lead.

Tomas Martin Etcheverry pulls a point back but is dragged off court by a wide serve and doesn't even attempt to chase the Brit's backhand winner into the opposite corner.

It's a sketchy service game for Tomas Martin Etcheverry, giving up a 40-15 lead in the face of some dogged baseline striking from Jacob Fearnley, but he comes through deuce to hold.

A bit of breathing room for the 27th seed, up a set and a break.

Botic van de Zandschulp has turned things around in the tie-break and he's rewarded with a first match point with a one-two punch off a wide serve.

Jan Choinski is on a roll from the baseline as he opens up a 4-1 lead, but Botic van de Zandschulp closes the gap with the help of an overhead winner and a poor Choinski miss. 4-4.

A second break of the set for Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

At 15-40, Jacob Fearnley comes into the net. Etcheverry lofts up a forehand lob and the back-tracking Brit puts his backhand overhead into the base of the net. I haven't seen the replay but I think that lob might have been drifting into the tramlines...

A superb first-serve return from Jan Choinski puts Botic van de Zandschulp on the backfoot and he can't recover the point.

He gets the next one before forces another miss from the Dutchman with a series of blazing backhands.

The ball pops up nicely for Jan Choinski off the net and he takes control of the rally, which eventually comes to an end when Botic van de Zandschulp shanks a forehand wide.

How many times has Jacob Fearnley failed to locate the baseline with a simple forehand? 0-30.

Double fault. Cover your eyes. 0-40.

Botic van de Zandschulp holds serve and that means we're going to a tie-break.

Still all to play for Jan Choinski, who has battled hard in this third set to keep his chances alive.
