This could be a whole lot closer than expected. Nuno Borges has impressed the crowd so far and he earned himself a deafening applause there with that delicious drop shot.

  2. Borges holdspublished at 14:03 BST

    *Sinner 3-4 Borges

How did Jannik Sinner get to that? The Italian came dashing in to ping a cross-court backhand at a wicked angle, sliding a good couple of feet after the stroke. Nuno Borges was stranded at the net after following his drop shot in. 0-15.

Borges deploys a similar tactic two points later, but this time he wisely stays back and Sinner's shot doesn't have the elevation. The world number 48 holds to 15.

We haven't seen a break point on Centre Court since Borges' opening service game.

  3. Kessler holdspublished at 14:00 BST

    *Sabalenka 6-1 2-3 Kessler

A superb passing shot down the line from McCartney Kessler draws one of the loudest cheers so far today from the Court One crowd.

The American doesn't stop to celebrate for a second and gets right back to business with another hold to love.

The world number 57 is rising to Sabalenka's game so far in the second set.

Jannik Sinner has only conceded one point across his opening three service games.

  5. Sabalenka holdspublished at 13:58 BST

    Sabalenka 6-1 2-2 Kessler*

Aryna Sabalenka responds to that quick service game from McCartney Kessler with a strong hold of her own.

Both players are serving well in the second set.

Flavio Cobolli had momentum on his side when last night's first round match with Mariano Navone was paused.

The Italian ninth seed recovered from losing the opening set to lead and has just wrapped up victory in four.

Cobolli had saved six set points before wrapping up victory with a tie-break. Australia's James Duckworth is next up for the man who reached the French Open final in May.

  8. Borges holds to lovepublished at 13:56 BST

    *Sinner 2-3 Borges

The good news for Jannik Sinner fans is he's showing no signs of any discomfort in his movement after his big fall and bloodied toe nail in round one, putting in yet more slides as Nuno Borges drags him back and forth across the net.

The bad news is that despite his efforts, Borges takes the point with a backhand volley winner and later holds to love.

We remain on serve in the first set.

  9. 'The big strikers can strike even more'published at 13:56 BST

    *Sabalenka 6-1 1-2 Kessler

    Marion Bartoli
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Two

For me, as an ex-player and coach, I am telling players you have to use your body to counter-power the ball or create own pace. You can't rely on swing of racquet completely.

If you try and go backwards against players like Sabalenka, the big strikers can strike even more. I would rather you attack your own ball more, serve and volley, go forwards.

  10. Kessler holdspublished at 13:54 BST

    *Sabalenka 6-1 1-2 Kessler

McCartney Kessler races through her service game to hold.

She can recharge a bit now at the change of ends before trying to apply some more pressure to Aryna Sabalenka's serve.

  11. Lobbing Federer changed his life - the cult hero back at Wimbledonpublished at 13:53 BST

Marcus Willis, whose first-round men's doubles match is under way on court 8, is not one for revelling in nostalgia.

But given the 35-year-old Briton is best known for lobbing Roger Federer on Centre Court, he knows his 2016 Wimbledon exploits will follow him for the rest of his life.

Ten years ago, Willis endeared himself to the nation with a heart-warming run from qualifying to a second-round tie against one of the greatest players of all time.

While the world number 772 lost 6-0 6-3 6-4, he won the BBC's Shot of the Tournament for picking off Federer with a delicious shot and ensured he would forever be a Wimbledon cult hero.

"People say, did you enjoy every moment? No, I was playing a tennis match. It's not always fun," Willis, who begins his Wimbledon men's doubles campaign on Wednesday, told BBC Sport.

"I'm very grateful for the chance to have been on Centre Court - that's wild - but I wanted to win on Centre Court.

"It's strange looking back because it feels like another lifetime."

  12. Sinner holdspublished at 13:53 BST

    Sinner 2-2 Borges*

Jannik Sinner hit 31 aces in his first-round match and he's already up to four today.

A shanked forehand at 40-0 is the only blemish in a routine hold.

  13. Sabalenka holdspublished at 13:52 BST

    Sabalenka 6-1 1-1 Kessler*

Aryna Sabalenka gathers herself to hold with a couple more big first serves.

Every time McCartney Kessler gets a spark of hope Sabalenka extinguishes it.

McCartney Kessler can't deal with a couple of big first serves from Aryna Sabalenka, but fights back with a backhand return which the Belarusian can do little about.

Sabalenka then plods a backhand into the net and the game heads to deuce.

More eye rolls from the world number one.

  15. Borges holdspublished at 13:50 BST

    *Sinner 1-2 Borges

Nuno Borges is on course for a similarly effortless hold to love, racing to 40-0, but a double fault opens the door for Jannik Sinner.

The Italian gets on top of the next rally off a second serve, hitting the baseline with multiple strokes before forcing an error from Borges at the net, but misses out on deuce with a netted forehand of his own.

  16. 'Sabalenka hitting three or four inches above the net'published at 13:48 BST

    *Sabalenka 6-1 0-1 Kessler

    Jeff Tarango
Former American tennis player on BBC Radio 5 Live

McCartney Kessler is going to have to capitalise on the fact that she is winning 70% of the second serve points from Aryna Sabalenka.

Sabalenka is serving great on her first serves, hitting 71% in and winning 77% of her first serve points, so she is dominating on those first serves.

What I really like about Sabalenka's game right now is the fact she is keeping the ball a lot lower over the net. Instead of playing it safe, she is hitting the ball three or four inches above the net, which makes it really hard off the bounce on the grass.

  17. Kessler holdspublished at 13:48 BST

    *Sabalenka 6-1 0-1 Kessler

Aryna Sabalenka is letting out some mighty cries as she strikes the ball but she's off target with a couple of forehands and McCartney Kessler holds at the start of the second set.

The American has not done much wrong today, it's more a case of Sabalenka playing at such a high level.

  18. Sinner holds to lovepublished at 13:46 BST

    Sinner 1-1 Borges*

A breezy hold for Jannik Sinner.

Ace number one of the day sets up 40-0 and he's quickly up to the net on game point, sliding into a drop shot and converting his backhand down the line.

That's one way to get the Centre Court crowd on side.

Nuno Borges will be up against it today, but people love an underdog and he's already entertained them with one great escape this afternoon.

  20. Borges holdspublished at 13:44 BST

    *Sinner 0-1 Borges

Nuno Borges comes through, securing the hold with a cross-court volley - for a brief moment I thought he'd overcooked into the tramlines but his placement was excellent.
