Friendship can go a long way in sport.

For Chloe Wilson and Shauna O’Neill, that bond helped turned tears of disappointment into tears of joy in the space of 12 hours.

From the heartbreak of missing out on the women’s pairs final after an extra end defeat to Malaysia, the duo managed to lift themselves, somehow, to beat Lauren Gowen and Amy Williams from Wales 4-2, 5-4 to claim the bronze medal.

“It was a real rollercoaster to be fair," O’Neill told BBC Sport NI.

“Getting beaten in a tiebreak in a semi-final when you think you have maybe just done enough to sneak over was heartbreaking to be honest.

“We worked hard to get ourselves to that point and we didn't really get back to the room until late and we knew that we were up early for this game, so we didn't have a lot of time to come around.

“However, me and Chloe share in a room. We had our moment, we let the emotions that we needed to feel, we felt them, and we woke up this morning, and we were just buzzing to go.”

Gymnastics - men's parallel bars final

We're not far away from the third gymnastics final of the afternoon at The Arena. This time it's the men's parallel bars and, once again, there is plenty of home nations interest.

All-around champion Reuben Ward of Scotland, Wales' Elliot Vernon and England's Adam Tobin and Alexander Yolshin-Cas all go in this one.

That was one of two golds for England in the bowls this morning with Sam Tolchard putting in a dominant performance in the gold medal match in the men's singles.

The 37-year-old claimed his first Commonwealth Games gold with a 2-0 win over Malaysia's Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple.

Tolchard won the first set 8-0 before storming back from 6-3 down in the second to take it 8-6 to secure the title.

"It means everything. My dad died when I was 15. He put everything into me so that's a long time ago. It'll literally be 22 years on 1 August. He put everything into me, mum as well. I'm so fortunate to have that start and I wouldn't be here today without them, so I want to thank them," Tolchard told the BBC's Frankie Golding.

England's Sian Honnor and Amy Pharaoh scooped up a gold medal in the women’s pairs in the bowls after edging out Malaysia 1.5-0.5 in closely contested final.

But they say they couldn’t have done it without support from home.

Sian Honnor (left): “For us as mums in particular, what we can go and do out there just simply isn’t possible without that support we have from home. That’s parents, husbands, siblings. This medal is for all of those people as well as us.”

Amy Pharaoh (right): “For everybody back home that helps us in some sort of way, shape or form - whether its support, babysitting all that and to have family here and that support in our stands, to share the moment with them is just great.”

England's Alia Leat remains in a medal place for now as Australia's Kate McDonald scores 12.166.

Maybe the high difficulty that Leat went for will pay off for her after all.

On the other rink to Scotland winning the Para-mixed pairs B2-B3 final, Wales beat New Zealand to claim a bronze medal in a tie-break.

The duo of Julie Thomas and Steffan James, aided by directors Jamie Jones and John Wilson, defeated New Zealand's pair of Sonya Woodrow and Kerrin Wheeler, aided by directors Kimberly Carraher and Colin Wheeler.

Wales lost the first set 7-4 but battled back to win the second set 6-3 to set up the sudden death end.

After Thomas had set up the chance and James held his nerve with two brilliant final bowls. New Zealand's final delivery failed and Wales celebrated.

In hall three at the SEC Centre, the Bee Gees were telling us we should be dancing before 9am.

It wasn't some early morning disco, but instead the venue for the para mixed pairs B2-B3 final.

This Commonwealth Games has lamped a real focus on inclusiveness. Few sports are more inclusive than bowls.

And with this new format - two five-end sets - plus the addition of a DJ and a big glitter ball, bowls is trying to captivate a new audience.

Those boogieing along to the beat early on Tuesday were treated to a highly-competitive, nail-biting showdown between Scotland and England, with the Scots winning after a tie-breaker.

Oh no!

Alia Leat is off the beam after a slip. She went for the high difficulty and, sadly, it doesn't pay off.

The rest of the routine is excellent but the Englishwoman's medal chances are almost certainly over.

The scores are in... it's a 12.866 for Leat. Bronze medal position for now. We'll see how long she can stay there.

The second final of the afternoon is under way - and it's the women's balance beam.

Two gymnasts have gone so far with Singapore's Amanda Yap currently leading the way with a score of 13.233.

Canada's Elsabeth Black is next up and there is a slight stumble midway through. She recovers well but that proves costly as she posts a score of 12.966 to move into the silver medal position.
