A tough start to the fourth quarter for Northern Ireland as England rattle off seven unanswered goals to start it.

Lisa Bowman ends that run with Northern Ireland's first of the quarter and is up to 22 goals as she adds another moments later.

Northern Ireland just looked like they were starting to tire at the end of that third quarter.

It's been a valiant effort and they will aim to keep the score down in this last quarter before a big game against Malawi tomorrow.

Three quarters down, one to go and England have got this one in the bag.

The Roses have been able to give everyone a decent run out and head coach Anna Stembridge has the luxury of deciding who she wants to give a bit more of a rest in the fourth quarter ahead of tomorrow's crucial match against Australia.

Northern Ireland might also be starting to look ahead to a key game against Malawi tomorrow.

You might notice Ella Clark's use of the bounce pass and signature shooting style? Well, the Loughborough Lightning shooter has a basketball background.

Clark has 40 caps for GB’s women’s basketball team, with her father Mark previously the head coach of the side. Basketball success for the Clark family doesn’t stop there though as her brother Danile is also an international player.

Heading towards the end of this third quarter and again Northern Ireland have managed to keep things relatively tight, certainly compared to the first quarter.

But England remain in complete control. With a huge match against Australia tomorrow, it will be interesting to see how the Roses approach the rest of this one.

Anna Stembridge has taken the scoreline as an endorsement to rotate the squad. In come fan favourite Eleanor Cardwell and Ella Clark to the shooting circle.

London's Pulse defensive duo Halimat Adio and Funmi Fadoju step into the defence and Manchester Thunder's Amy Carter in swapped in for Allison in the centre position.

A few errors from both sides early in this third quarter with changes to both teams.

Eleanor Cardwell is on at goal shooter for England and is a perfect eight from eight shots so far, though.

Hope Gordon completed a "full circle moment" after realising her dream of competing in the Commonwealth Games, just a short distance away from her old bed in Yorkhill Children's Hospital.

The 31-year-old became the first female to compete in Para-powerlifting for Scotland, finishing ninth in the heavyweight category at the SEC Armadillo.

The closing ceremony of the Games will be a poignant moment for her, falling on the 10th anniversary of her having her left leg amputated after nine years of treatment.

Her journey was all the more remarkable, winning two goals medals in her usual sport of Para-Canoeing 10 days before the Games, then fighting off food poisoning before competing.

"It was incredible," said Gordon. "My mum, dad and my brother, they're the ones that knew how tough it was when I was in Yorkhill and I guess there's not many people who knew what was going on behind those hospital doors.

"So, for all of us to have that experience where we're in the Armadillo to compete, or my family to spectate, and we can see Yorkhill right beside it, it was incredible."

England's Natalie Metcalf says it "will take some time to process fully" after she was ruled out of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow because of a calf injury.

The 33-year-old, who had returned to action last December following the birth of her daughter 14 months ago, sustained the issue on Monday and has been ruled out following scans.

Metcalf helped England win Commonwealth Games gold on the Gold Coast in Australia eight years ago and was the only player in the 2026 squad who featured in that 2018 triumph.

"I'm devastated to not be able to continue with the team," said Metcalf, who has been replaced in the squad by Ella Clark.

"It's been a very emotional couple of days and something that I think will take some time for me to process fully."

Sometimes it's about a bigger picture.

Scotland took a sore one as they opened the Commonwealth Games netball with a thumping 74-44 defeat by New Zealand, but the events of Saturday morning were about much more than just the contest on court.

The biggest ever crowd for netball in Scotland was inside the cavernous Hydro for the 09:00 BST start as the sport was given a priceless platform.

"We're so grateful," said goal shooter Emma Barrie, who scored 20 of the hosts' points. "We don't get many events like this in netball.

"It's so special for women's sport and for all these little girls to be able to see it. When I came to the 2014 Games, that was the start of netball for me."

Defeat in their first of five group games was not unexpected given the Scots' opposition were the world's second best side.

The more significant test comes against Wales on Sunday (09:00) as they endeavour to improve on their ninth-place finish in Birmingham four years ago.

A better showing from Northern Ireland who capitalise on England's errors to produce a better quarter losing 17-11.

Another competitive quarter from Northern Ireland, who manage to score four more goals than they did in the first.

Goal shooter Lisa Bowman has impressed on her return to the team after an eight-year hiatus.

The hooter sounds for half-time and England are well on their way to a comprehensive victory.

Northern Ireland were much-improved from the first quarter, limiting England to just 17 goals in that second quarter and scoring 11 themselves.

This one is going as expected, though, with Olivia Tchine leading the way for the Roses with 25 goals, Sasha Glasgow has 12 from 12 shots and Lois Pearson has had a stint at goal attack as well, scoring four.

Nottingham Forest head coach Chelsea Pitman was in the Hydro on media duties earlier on but I'm sure she'll have her eye across this game with four of her players on the court.

New recruit Imogen Allison from the SSN (Australian League), and Jayda Pechova of England facing up against team-mates Niamh Cooper and Evelyn McCagherty of Northern Ireland.

Nicholas Devlin usually spends his Saturday mornings in Aldi in East Kilbride. Shelf stacking. Cleaning up. Bit of work on the tills.

Not this week, though. This week he was fighting for Scotland.

The 25-year-old delivered an accomplished performance in front of family, friends and team-mates at the SEC to see off Finbar O'Sullivan of New Zealand this morning in the men's lightweight category.

Devlin's win was unanimous, taking all three rounds, to move into the last 16 and within two bouts of securing at least a bronze medal.

His target is gold, though, with the prospect of turning professional on the horizon and leaving behind his days in the supermarket.

"I've used up my holidays this year so I've had to take time off unpaid," Devlin told BBC Sport Scotland. "But they've been a great support to me, letting me work round my training and stuff, so I can't thank them enough.

"I'd pick this any day of the week, though..."
