Red Bull's Max Verstappen took his second dominant victory within a week as he secured his first win in the Singapore Grand Prix.

Verstappen fought off an attack from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc off the start line to control the race from start to finish.

The win followed his and Red Bull's maiden victory of the year in Malaysia last weekend and sprint race success in Singapore on Saturday, confirming the team's re-emergence as a major force.

Leclerc took second as team-mate Lewis Hamilton finished sixth after a baffling strategy that was a consequence of the Briton choosing not to pit when asked.

Hamilton, trying to last out on a set of soft tyres for a mammoth 44 laps, lost out in the closing laps to Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli and the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

The plaudits will go to Singapore race winner Max Verstappen tonight, and rightly so. But all eyes will be on championship leader Kimi Antonelli when the season arrives in Austin for the United States Grand Prix, from 23-25 October.

The 20-year-old Italian can seal his world maiden title if he wins the race at the Circuit of the Americas and Mercedes team-mate George Russell is ninth or lower and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton finishes outside the top four.

We'll see you again for first practice in Texas, which starts at 18:30 BST - and remember the clocks also go back that weekend.

    See you in two weeks!

  3. 'It's just a matter of time' - Antonellipublished at 16:08 BST

Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli speaking to Sky Sports after finishing on the podium at the Singapore Grand Prix: "Obviously Lewis was struggling a lot and I knew I had a good chance after Turn One and took advantage of it. Set my move and the way I positioned myself and the car and after that I was able to first pass Lando which was crucial, and then pass Lewis afterwards."

On the possibility of winning the championship at the next race: "All in all I feel like we're doing a great job. At the end you look at the season and we've always been there. Obviously we've had a great car and now we're trying to understand this new package. I'm very proud of the team this weekend and we've pushed through the difficulties and now we've started to see the light at the end of the tunnel so it's just a matter of time. Now we go back to Austin. A normal weekend where we can do a lot of changes and understand this package more."

  4. McLaren 'worst of the top four teams' - Norrispublished at 16:05 BST

    Lando NorrisImage source, Getty Images

McLaren's Lando Norris speaking to Sky Sports after finishing P4: "I should have done a better job battling Lewis. It was inevitable that I was going to pass him at some point, I just shouldn't have tried to overtake him when I did. I braked a bit late and could have still put a good move in and he would have had to let me pass because he braked way too late. A bit unnecessary from me. Not a good weekend for me in terms of making decisions like that."

On the chances of McLaren catching up with Red Bull: "We can't unless we bring upgrades and we don't have anything for a little bit. At the minute we're fourth fastest back to the top group which is closer than we were at the beginning of the year and we can still fight pretty well. We're still fighting for top four and almost for podiums but we're still too far off and we're the worst of the top four teams. We just have to keep upgrading the car."

All credit to Antonelli. He will likely be the champion soon, but perhaps not the next race. Verstappen has still a good chance to finish P2 in the standings come the end of the season. It would, once again, show his exceptional talent.

  6. Chance of Antonelli becoming champion 'probably almost 100%' - Wolffpublished at 16:01 BST

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff speaking to Sky Sports after the race: "It was a difficult race. With the whole update issue, finally we saw what the car is able to do. Obviously when you're fourth it's hard to recover on the road here in Singapore but I'm happy with what Kimi did today and happy with the result."

On George Russell's performance: "It's so difficult to overtake. He pulled off some really great moves but then at the end, it's just converging with the performance even with a car that is a second or a second and a half off the pace it's impossible to overtake."

On the chance of Antonelli winning the championship in Austin: "It's about scoring points. We didn't expect to be ahead of Lewis because they were fast so coming in and scoring more points than him is good. You look at the numbers, you ask what the probability of him winning is and it's probably almost 100%. But this is motor racing, you can break down, you can have accidents and then things could start to stress. So I think we need to look at this race by race, make sure we're continuing to score points and hopefully it's going to come towards him."

  7. 'Story of the season' - Russellpublished at 15:58 BST

    George RussellImage source, Getty Images

Mercedes' George Russell speaking to Sky Sports about his race at Marina Bay: "The VSC ended as I came into the pits, 10 seconds more could have helped me out quite a lot. Anyway, it was always going to be difficult coming from the back. It has been a bit of a shame the last two weekends, it could have panned out very differently. A little bit of a story of the season, everything just not going in a fantastic way. Very much looking forward to the break now."

On taking his next grid penalty: "It will be looking later on in the season now, maybe Vegas, it will be there at some point. But now we have the choice to take it when we wish and we will be choosing a slightly easier track like this one."

On whether finishing second is the goal if he cannot win the championship: "The goal right now is to try and improve the car, we were pretty much the dominant team for this whole season and if you look at the recent races, Red Bull have been very much the best. Max Verstappen has dominated the last two weekends so right now as a team, the goal is to try and get on top of these updates."

  8. Vasseur - 'We called them both to pit'published at 15:55 BST

    Fred VasseurImage source, Getty Images

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur speaking to Sky Sports after the race: "Overall it's a good weekend, we did P2 and P3 yesterday in the sprint with wet, P2, P3 in quali and P2 and we are not far away from P3 also today. All over the weekend Max was a bit faster than us and this we have to try to catch up but overall it was a strong performance from the team, from the two drivers and overall a good weekend for us."

On starting Hamilton on the medium: "I think today the soft was much better than the medium which was why Lewis struggled at the beginning and a bit less at the end but I think we are all in the same situation starting the race a bit blind and it screwed that for us. With the two cars in two and three it was important to take different options to fight with Max."

On whether the plan was for Hamilton to do two stops: "We kept the door open for the two options depending on VSC. We called him, them both to pit. That would have been P2 and P3 because we were P2 and P3 on track but he missed the pit entry and honestly it's a bit of a shame because he's losing a podium as well."

On whether he is clear on what happened with Hamilton not pitting under the VSC: "It was crystal clear on the radio but now let's be focused on the team. The performance this weekend was OK, we have to be focused on the future."

  9. Hamilton seen by medical team after feeling unwellpublished at 15:53 BST

After finishing sixth, Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton felt unwell and has been seen by the FIA medical team. He has been given permission by the FIA to not attend the post-race media pen.

It's been a fruitful weekend for Max Verstappen following his Malaysia victory seven days ago.

The four-time world champion was sixth in the standings in the build-up to Singapore. One sprint win later and he'd jumped above Lando Norris to take fifth before lights out on Sunday.

Taking the chequered flag today from pole position and securing maximum points has boosted his championship standings again, and now he slots into fourth place, six points ahead of Charles Leclerc and eight points off third-placed Lewis Hamilton.

  11. Red Bull have been 'faultless' this weekend - Mekiespublished at 15:48 BST

    Red BullImage source, Getty Images

Red Bull boss Laurent Mekies, speaking to Sky Sports: "A very strongly executed race. A big well done to the team, they always perform extremely strongly. It may have not been that visible at the beginning of the year when the car had a little bit less pace. But they have been faultless this weekend.

"More importantly, I am thinking of all of our people in Milton Keynes, that have extracted more performance out of the package to allow all the capable minds we have to extract more lap time. That is what they have done and today we are in a position to fight on quite a few different layouts and it is a great indication of the strength the team has in Milton Keynes.

"We will take it race by race. We have performed well now in quite a few layouts, which is encouraging. We think if we do the right job, we should be in the fight to be fighting for the top positions on the track.

"The important thing is we take the learnings, even on a weekend like this, with the two poles and the two wins. Many, many things we want to improve in, many thing we want to do better if we have to come back here. That is the spirit of the team and learn for this year and next year."

    Kimi AntonelliImage source, Getty Images

Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, speaking after finishing third: "It was a very tough race out there but really happy with a podium at the end. I managed to take advantage of the fight of Lando and Lewis and to make a move on both and to bring home P3 is a great result for the team. Yeah, very happy with that."

On him being able to win the championship at the next race in Austin: "Can I? Really? Let's not worry about that, let's try to do the best weekend possible and finish the job."

  15. Leclerc 'believed in it until the very end'published at 15:29 BST

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, speaking after finishing P2 at the Singapore Grand Prix: "We were quite strong at the beginning of the race and we started to degrade a bit more on the first stint. But then we did a slightly different strategy to Max [Verstapen] with the virtual safety car, I believed in it until the very end.

"I pushed a lot at the beginning of that last stint and degraded a bit more than the others but I gave it my all and I don't regret anything. I don't think there was a lot more to do than to be a bit more aggressive at the start but it is what it is.

"It's true that we've brought some small new parts which maybe helped us to go another step forward but it's not enough. We'll push until the end and we've still got some new things to bring to the car to be at the level but I think today we had a good pace overall."

Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who wins his first ever Singapore Grand Prix: "It has taken a while but I think this race was very good. We had pace when we needed to have it on the soft tyre and on the medium, even though I think the medium tyre for everyone was a bit more of a struggle but it worked out so of course very happy to win here."

On whether he was nervous at the start of the race: "Yeah, you always try to do your best and luckily it was just good enough."

On Red Bull's form: "I think the last few races have been really positive for us and it is just great to see and we have a lot of motivation in the team to try and deliver even more results. It is a really good group of people, I really enjoy working with them and hopefully we can have a bit more fun until the end of the year."
