  1. Norris beats Leclerc's timepublished at 22:27 GMT

Lewis Hamilton has the soft tyre on now along with Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc, but the two team-mates find getting a good flyer in at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez a tough ask, as both have moments at various points on track.

And now Leclerc has a big lock-up at Turn One, but just avoids running fully onto the grass.

Lando Norris also has the soft compound bolted on, and he manages to put together the perfect attempt to go above Leclerc by 0.096 seconds.

The time to beat by the McLaren world champion is 1:18.161.

  2. Antonelli goes P2published at 22:23 GMT

Kimi Antonelli, the champion in waiting, has the medium tyres on now. The Italian 20-year-old is close to Charles Leclerc's best marker, but the Mercedes man can't make it a smooth lap overall, so he slots in at P2, just over three tenths off the Ferrari driver.

  3. Have your say by using the 'get involved' buttonpublished at 22:21 GMT

You call it racing, but Max tried to drive him off the track, and then intentionally went off track himself to try and get past. That was all Max, and classic Max Verstappen... he should be given a grid penalty!

It didn't look like it was a good incident for either of them. I can see someone getting into trouble - it looked like a bit of road rage.

  6. Track clearpublished at 22:19 GMT

The incident between the two former Red Bull team-mates has been noted by race control. The debris came off Max Verstappen's car, whose radio we're yet to hear.

Racing Bulls' Lawson was on the inside of four-time world champion Verstappen and as they tried to pass each other, they both ended up off the track.

Lando Norris is fifth on the timesheets on his yellow medium rubber but down at Turn One, the world champion locks up and ends up on the grass.

Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson are back in the car for FP2 - and the two are racing already. The Red Bull driver and Racing Bulls man may have made contact in that scuffle, and there's some debris on track that needs to be cleared.

  10. Leclerc to the toppublished at 22:11 GMT

Gabriel Bortoleto missed out on first practice, making way for Briton Freddie Slater. But now the Brazilian is stranded in the Audi garage, as his car has ran into a bit of bother.

Charles Leclerc, who was quickest in FP1, goes to the top again with a time of 1:18.257, which is 0.484 seconds quicker than Ferrari team-mate Lewis Hamilton on the same medium tyre.

One thing to say, Callum, is Alex Albon was very diplomatic in his response to Fernando Alonso's comments, saying the Spaniard was a driver he has always looked up to. The two also shared a jokey moment on the fan stage earlier on.

Oscar Piastri has a short stay at the top of the timesheets on the hard tyre but Lewis Hamilton has nicked his place with a marker of 1:18.741 on the medium compound.

World champion Lando Norris is running the opposite tyres to Piastri, so he's also on hte yellow medium compound and has just gone third.

  12. Have your say using the 'get involved' buttonpublished at 22:06 GMT

Alonso has always had a petty streak in him (Hungary qualifying) but his comments are really disappointing. He should be supporting and nurturing the younger drivers at this stage of his career, not needlessly putting them down over incidents on lap 1

There is a low level and lack of talent in F1 - Alonso

With age, experience and two drivers' titles under his belt, Fernando Alonso doesn't shy away from giving his honest opinions about other competitors on the grid.

Following contact with Williams' Alex Albon in the early stages of the United States Grand Prix when the pair were battling for position, Aston Martin's Alonso said the quality of the drivers at the back of the grid is "very low".

The stewards didn't dish out any penalties for the incident, and Alonso finished the race in 16th and Albon in 17th.

On Thursday, the Spaniard doubled down on his criticism, reiterating he thinks there is a "very low level of driving" and "a lack of talent" when fighting at the rear of the field.

The 36-year-old Mexican will remain with Cadillac until 2029 after signing a new multi-year deal with the American team, who joined the grid as the 11th team this season. Perez is also set to reach his 300th grand prix start in Mexico City, so it's a double celebration.

While he and team-mate Valtteri Bottas are yet to score a point this year, Perez said he "truly believed" in the Cadillac project from the very beginning, "and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter," he added.

Ferrari were the only team not to run a rookie in first practice earlier on, opting instead to have both Charles Leclerc and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in the car.

Leclerc ended up 0.659 seconds quicker than Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli after some soft-tyre runs, with the other Silver Arrows of reserve driver Frederik Vesti in third place.

Ayumu Iwasa, who was sitting in for four-time world champion Max Verstappen at Red Bull, was the highest of all the rookies in fifth, while veteran Fernando Alonso put his Aston Martin seventh on the timesheets.

At Cadillac, American Colton Herta was able to do enough laps in Mexico to score the 40 points he needed to secure the superlicence required to step up and enter Formula 1.
