Hearts had the game won. There was no doubt about that. They were by far the better team in the second half. Aberdeen looked like they had no answers.

Aberdeen have won 10 of their last 11 home league games against Heart of Midlothian, with the exception a goalless draw in January 2025.
This is the second successive league season in which Aberdeen and Heart of Midlothian have faced on the opening day, after Hearts won 2-0 in 2025-26. Hearts last visited Aberdeen on MD1 in 2019-20, losing 3-2.
After losing 0-2 to Hearts on MD1 last season, Aberdeen could lose on the opening day in back-to-back league campaigns for the first time since a run of three from 2007-08 to 2009-10.
Hearts have won their opening game in four of the last five Scottish Premiership seasons (D1), last losing on MD1 in the division in 2019-20 – which was away to Aberdeen (2-3).
This will be Wouter Vrancken’s first league game as Heart of Midlothian manager. Both of Hearts’ last two managers have won their first Scottish Premiership game in charge, Neil Critchley beating St. Mirren 4-0 in October 2024 and Derek McInnes beating Aberdeen 2-0 on August 2025.
