  3. 'We let them into the game'published at 16:51 BST 18 October

    FT: Man City 3-2 Brighton'

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Andree Jeglertz speaking to BBC Sport: "Our second half is good, we controlled the game. Brighton is a good team, We scored three goals, that's great. We conceded two unnecessary goals, we let them into the game and then it always becomes a little bit nervous.

"For us its about doing the right things all the time. If you concede or score three, you have to keep doing the things you are good at. If we become sloppy, or not doing everything to 100%, the team will punish us.

On next week's Manchester derby: "Brighton is one of the toughest teams in the league, United are also special. It's about us. We need to be better in a couple of things. But today our high press is much better than it has been for a long time and we need to bring that next week."

    Manchester City

Manchester City winger Lauren Hemp speaking to BBC Sport: "I try to put the ball in as many times as I can for Bunny [Khadija Shaw] and know she will score from the majority of them. It's nice to play with a player like that. I'm grateful to get a couple of assists today."

On the expectations of defending the WSL title: "I waited seven years for that title, I was trying my absolute most and so was the rest of the team. We come into this season with a target on our backs, but we like that pressure; once you get a taste of winning, you then want it more."

On whether she is in the form of her life: "I wasn't best pleased with my performance today. I want to keep improving - I want my performance across the whole of the game to be good. I lost the ball too many times today."

On the Manchester derby up next...

Huge game. Always one of the biggest games that you look for in a season as a Manchester City player. To continue this run, six out of six and go into the derby full of confidence is a perfect position.

  6. 'We were very resilient'published at 16:43 BST 18 October

    FT: Man City 3-2 Brighton'

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Arturo Ruiz speaking to BBC Sport: "Well it was very hard in the beginning but from that point we showed what we wanted. That is the most important thing. From minute 18 to the end of the game we performed how we want to perform in these kind of games.

"Proud of the things we did very well and we were very resilient but we need to focus better. We will get better."

On his team's confidence levels: "I don't know. I want to analyse the game properly and in some hours, some days I will have balanced conclusions. We want to feel more comfortable with and without the ball in these games."

On Brighton's fans: "Thank you to our people who came this far. I could hear them the whole of the game. Next Saturday we have an incredible game in the Amex which is going to be important for us."

    FT: Man City 3-2 Brighton

    Manchester City

Manchester City winger Lauren Hemp speaking to BBC Sport: "It was an alright game, we made it a lot harder for ourselves than we should have especially how we started the game. We were really dominant but then let them in.

"Second half we kept the ball well, stayed calm, didn't let them have many chances.

"To concede two goals like that, we're a bit disappointed, but in terms of getting the win and getting the job done, we are happy with that.

"It was important we got a good start; we have struggled with that in previous matches, but we took our foot off the gas a bit once they scored, once they scored they were hungry for more.

"We were a bit disappointed with that; we wanted to take positives from the first 20 minutes, and that's what Andre emphasized at half time. That when we play like the first 20 minutes we can beat anybody."

  8. 'City took those moments'published at 16:37 BST 18 October

    FT: Man City 3-2 Brighton

    Steph Houghton
Former Manchester City defender on BBC Two

If you look at the way City approached the game, that first 30 minutes, with intensity, with quality. I think when moments came, City took those moments. Brighton started to fight back, got the two goals before half-time.

I think overall, the first 30 minutes kind of wrapped up the game for City itself.

  9. 'We just held our calm'published at 16:34 BST 18 October

    FT: Man City 3-2 Brighton

    Manchester City

Khadija Shaw speaking to BBC Two after scoring twice: "Difficult in the second half, obviously we started the game really well and then Brighton came back but I think if we can finish our chances then it wouldn't have to be this difficult for us.

"I feel like every time we play against Brighton it's always a challenge, they always give us something different so we knew that we had to stay in and like I said they came back and scored two before half-time which made it difficult in the second half but we just held our calm, composure and got the job done."

On scoring more headed goals then any other player in WSL history: "I think it's just one of my strengths at the minute. We practice a lot with the players I have around me and it's just second nature when I know they get the ball."

On Manchester derby up next: "Yeah big one, exciting. Always a big challenge when we play against United but like I said a game at a time and Manchester United is no different. We are going to attack it how we attacked today and hopefully we can get the job done as well."

Even after grabbing two assists and causing Brighton all sorts of problems today, she's not content with her performance.

Man City showed signs of being scintillating in that first half but they also showed signs of vulnerability and Brighton capitalised on that with two counter-attacking plays where they really took their opportunities. It ended up being a brilliant game in the first half, jeopardy throughout the whole second half.

More boos. The Manchester City fans think Khadija Shaw has been brought down in the box by Caitlin Hayes.

But it's good defending from the Brighton defender and despite finding herself on the floor, she manages to keep the ball out of Shaw's reach.
