I’m 50 this year and that ranks as the best England game at a World Cup. Beating Germany 5-1 was special, but this….. this was memorable on a different level. Work? Sure I’m powering through. Worth every yawn, ache, heavy head today. The Beautiful game at its absolute best.

I’ve followed England since Mexico 86. I remember crying at the “Hand of God”. Deep down I’ve never felt that England had what it took mentally to win a tournament before. Not now. That was easily the best England performance I have ever seen. Believe!

That was one of the greatest results, performances. They showed attitude, grit, desire, everything you would have wanted an England team to show they showed tonight.
Going down to 10 we knew it was going to be difficult. They sat in and I was worried that we went too deep too early, but they put their bodies on the line. The centre-backs and Pickford were outstanding.
We were the better team until the red card and then we showed a lesson in heading the ball out of the box, blocking shots, just brilliant.

I’ve covered six major tournaments with England but nothing beats what I witnessed tonight.
Not just because England won the game in the way they did but just the enormity of the occasion.
The stadium was literally shaking at various points of the evening.
The locals were magnificent - supported their team to the end.
But this was England’s night. Arguably one of their best ever at a World Cup.

Bellingham scores two in 98 seconds to silence the Azteca
England produced their best display of the World Cup amid the passion and emotion of the Azteca Stadium to secure a dramatic victory over Mexico and set up a quarter-final against Norway.
On a night of sheer sporting theatre, with the game delayed by an hour because of severe storms, Thomas Tuchel's side even survived Jarell Quansah's red card early in the second half to record one of their finest wins in recent years.
Mexico had lost only two of 89 competitive games at their Azteca fortress, but England's cool approach early on allowed them to take command when the outstanding Jude Bellingham scored twice in the space of 98 seconds before half-time.
England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was in superb form, twice saving brilliantly from Raul Jimenez, but he was powerless to stop Julian Quinones pulling a goal back for Mexico with a powerful finish three minutes before the break.
Mexico were being driven forward by a constant cacophony of sound, which increased when Quansah was sent off for a high challenge on Jesus Gallardo, but England restored their two-goal lead when Harry Kane scored from the spot after Anthony Gordon was brought down by keeper Raul Rangel.
Just when England thought they had restored order, Kane was the culprit when he kicked Brian Gutierrez's foot in the area, Jimenez scoring the resulting spot-kick.
With England under pressure and in frantic atmosphere, Tuchel brought on Dan Burn and Djed Spence, reverting to a five-man defence to see out 11 minutes of stoppage time for a superb win.

We've been told that Jordan Henderson will not travel back to Kansas City with the squad this evening and will stay back in Mexico City with a member of England medical staff.
Henderson injured his wrist celebrating at full-time. He appeared to land awkwardly after falling from the advertising hoardings following England's 3-2 victory and was pictured leaving the pitch on a stretcher.

I can’t believe it, we came to the Azteca in front of nearly 90,000 Mexican fans, went down to 10 men in the 55th minute and held on to that 3-2 lead through the hostile environment of the Azteca, with 11 minutes of added time…my heart has not stopped racing. This is my first World Cup I’ve attended. I honesty don’t know how England pulled it off. Oh hang on yes I do…Jude Bellingham. Probably the greatest sporting event I’ll ever be at. And I have to add the Mexican fans are amazing, the best!! What a day!! 🙏🏼
